Sewing 101 Taught by Janet English Learn the basics of sewing. We’ll show you how to use sewing supplies safely. Make a pillowcase and a pair of pajama bottoms. Homework may be required. General Supplies Needed:  Sewing Machine in working order. Bring your manual and all accessories just in case. Or you can use our loaner machines during class time.  Flexible tape measure  Fabric scissors and small trimming scissors  Straight pins  Seam or hem gauge  Seam ripper  Elastic threader or large safety pin  Fabric marking pencil, chalk or pen  Fresh machine needles. Size 12 universal to fit your machine Supplies for pillowcase: please have fabric pre-cut and ready to sew before class   

27” x 40” piece of cotton fabric for pillow body 10” x 40” piece of cotton fabric for pillow cuff Thread to match fabric

Supplies for pajama pants: please pre-wash fabric before class   

Pattern suggestions: Simplicity 1520 , 2290, Kwik Sew 3837, McCall’s 2476, or any other simple pajama pants pattern designed for woven fabrics Good quality cotton or flannel fabric in the amount specified for your size Any notions required for your pattern (elastic, ribbon, etc.)
