Sheriffs’ & Police Activities League of Memphis & Shelby County TN Board of Directors’ Meeting Meeting Minutes 2/1/2018 Meeting was opened up by President Kevin Phipps @ 6:10 Prayer was offered by Natalie Gore. Roll was called: Present: Craig Littles, Kevin Phipps, Will Timmons, Natalie Gore, Rosalyn Crawford, Temiika Gibson, Denitra Payne, Tonya Robinson, Loralon Walker, Karl Burt, (Memphis Bears) Cynthia Fields, (Tillman Mustangs) Michelle Jones,(Desoto Saints) Felix Strickland, (Airways Wildcats) Bobby Teal , Tommy Washington, Jannese Hayes, Undrea Townsend, Veronica Lockett Absent: Appling Wolves, Memphis Falcons, Raines Tigers, SEMAA Tigers, Tedrick Caldwell Introductions of Guest: Tera Upshaw- Volleyball Administrator Candidate Elecia Moore- Cheer Administrator Candidate Due to not having a quorum:  

President Kevin Phipps deemed Cheer Administrator candidate Elecia Moore as Temporary Interim Cheer Administrator pending full board vote. President Kevin Phipps deemed Volleyball Administrator candidate Tera Upshaw as Temporary Interim Volleyball Administrator pending full board vote.

**It was noted that still in search of Baseball & Soccer Administrators New League- Tipton County is still in the works of getting all there paperwork and necessary information in order The newly created Allen Pharaohs has been in talks with some interested League Directors. It was noted that some interested candidates: Old Brownsville Rd. & Bulldogs Mission Moments: Tillman spoke of the connection they have been forming with the community Financial Review: Recap of previous year some numbers were noted Football- 43 short of goal of 600 (per grant numbers) Cheer- 165 short of goal of 240 (per grant numbers) Upcoming sports numbers- Baseball , Track -240 The mission of Memphis Shelby PAL is to prevent juvenile crime and violence through positive relationship building among kids, cops, and communities that promotes excellence in both sportsmanship and mentoring.

Also adding Volleyball & others Other financial recaps: In 2017 we received 3 major grants which covered -uniforms -equipment -marketing Also we underwent audits by the City CFO, MPD Financial Manager & MPD Grants 2018 Grants: Soccer- Received Nike & Shelby Co.- Pending It was noted that per grant we have to do the things asked of us. And it is very important that we understand that we must have these things in place to continue to get the funding. Also it was further explained that the reporting certain items such as attendance and report cards/progress report. We must remember that a good word of mouth is necessary with our partners and that the perpetuating of false negative information is detrimental to future funding. MOUS: The following were the current pending MOUs   

Cal Ripkin- partnership for a recreational park City Division for the old DMV on Lamar- would be responsible for insurance & electricity Parks Division for Ed Rice satellite office for meeting space- would be responsible for insurance & electricity

Sports Administrator Reports: TrackThe track administrator wants to meet with all the League Directors. Also a coach’s clinic will be held soon as well. It was noted the obligation of precinct teams due to the grants and MOU of PAL. FootballAttended the USA football conference, gathered some very helpful information that should help this season of football a successful one. Highly convinced that the introduction of Flag Football would benefit the organization. Looking into in-person clinics, currently the cost is around $10

**Per the CVO, the idea of doing one comprehensive certification clinic, all administrators, all sports is something that is being looked into.

Weekly meetings will start up within the next few weeks. Coordinators’ Reports: Event/FundraiserThe order form for the License Plates was presented so orders can begin to be taken. The deadline to get the 1,000 orders is May 1st. Money Orders only or go online. All board members are encourage to sell 30-40 license plates. It was noted that rotating gates for Track is/will be discussed DonationsAll were reminded/encouraged to continue pushing the Kroger Community Rewards Impact2017 in review- Big PAL Weekend review Keep good word of mouth to the community was reiterated On February 5th the travel team will be receiving a proclamation from the Shelby County Commission at 3pm Logos have changed, removed station from the logo names Events were under-attend

***It was noted that even she was not in attendance tonight , Ms. Malikah Crawley is the current Volunteer Coordinator candidate Grant/Outreach 2017 in review- for the most part all grants submitted at the end of the year are still pending. Have a meeting w/ Youth Villages for a potential partnership. Also Memphis Grizzles & Jiff as potential partners. Committee Reports: BylawsOpen bylaws meetings will start meeting this Saturday 1/3 at Panera Bread on Union. All recommendations need to be submitted in writing as well as will be needed to be present to verbally explain update. March 1st all bylaw amendments process will be closed. Bylaw committee consists of: Loralon Walker, Asst. Director Natalie Gore, Secretary Kevin Phipps, President Craig Littles, CVO And open to all
