In December, we are December continuing the Believe Sermons Series. Thus far, it has been an incredible experience. BELIEVE experience helps Christians of all ages answer these three significant questions: ● What do I believe? ● What should I do? ● Who am I becoming? We will explore 10 key beliefs, 10 key practices, and 10 key virtues that will help us to think, act, and be more like Jesus. My prayer for Shiloh is that you will believe in our great God and His calling on your life like never before. I hope that when we are finished with this series, you will be saying, “I know what I believe and why, and I will seek to live it out all the days of my life.”

This is the eighth in a series of articles highlighting Shiloh’s young people.

Maci Morris is a 17-year-old senior at Pioneer High School, where she is involved in a variety of activities. She is the president of both National Honor Society and Pep Club and is also an active member of Sunshine Society and Student Council. Recently concluding her final high school volleyball season, Maci is especially proud of the team’s accomplishment in qualifying for semistate. “I don’t think anyone expected us to do very well this year, but we were able to show people what hard work does,” she said. During track season in the spring she will be doing “a little bit of everything.” Last year she ran hurdles and sprints and executed high jumps and long jumps for the Panthers. When Maci has any free time, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and family or playing with her dog. After graduation from high school, Maci’s plans are centered around attending IUPUI to double-major in exercise science and sports management. When that goal has been achieved, she would like to go graduate school and study physical therapy. Maci has been on three mission trips with Shiloh’s Youth Group – one in St. Louis, Missouri, and two to Kentucky (Big Creek). Says Maci, “Going on these mission trips has been a highlight of my junior and senior high school experience. It was a spiritual awakening for me.” Maci has attended Shiloh her entire life and appreciates the support that Shiloh folks have always given her and her family through the years.

Youth Group News November brings a time change and shorter days. That means by the time youth group meetings start, it is dark. The darkness brings a chance to play games the youth really miss. November 19th, was one of those chances. After a game learning about and making Christian symbols called crismons for Christmas decorating, the game of sardines broke out. Pastor Mark and Lucy spent four days in Memphis, Tennessee, at the National Youth Workers Conference meeting people and learning more about making an impact in the lives of American teens. December 2nd is the first Shiloh Youth Christmas Tree Sale. If you enjoy having a fresh cut Christmas tree, come out to B&K East on the afternoon of Dec 2nd to get your perfect tree. The trees will be cut that morning, so you know they will be fresh for the whole season!! Shiloh Youth are encouraged to participate in the Sharing Program on December 3rd, and we will have our regular meetings on the 10th and 17th in December. Watch for details about a Christmas party on the 17th!! Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! See you in 2018!!

How to Support Shiloh Youth …and Do Your Christmas Shopping! When you don’t really know what to get Aunt Bertha, how about a gift card? Everybody can use a gift card. If Aunt Bertha buys groceries, Martin’s Supermarket might be the perfect gift. Or maybe she really likes to travel, so an airline or gas station card would fit just right. The online shopper would love an Amazon gift card. Perhaps you know her favorite store but not what she really wants or needs. Look for that store on our list of over 300 Shop with Scrip merchants. That list is at the Inspiration Station or on line at www.shopwithscrip.com/ So no matter who is on your Christmas list, the Shiloh Youth Group has the perfect gift. In December we will order following Sunday the 10th and have the cards by Sunday the 17th. If signing up at church is inconvenient and you would like to place your orders online, just let Pastor Mark know and he will help you get set up. It is easy you just need to know the enrollment code.

The Shiloh post office will once again be open in December for sending Christmas greetings to others in the congregation. Greetings can be sent in two different ways: conventional Christmas cards or PowerPoint greetings. For conventional cards, place your cards in the large drop box located in the church narthex, with the recipient’s name on the envelope (no postage needed). For PowerPoint greetings to the entire church, submit your written greeting, photos, or cards and place it in the small box marked “PowerPoint” by December 17th, or email your written greeting or complete PowerPoint slide to Mark Sell at [email protected] by December 20th. On December 24th the cards will be sorted and distributed and the PowerPoint greetings will be projected on the screens after the worship service. For cards to friends at Webb Chapel, please mark Webb in the top corner of the envelope and place in the small box marked “Webb”. Assistance will be needed to process the PowerPoint greetings. If you are interested in helping, please contact Mark Sell.

An Old-Fashioned Christmas Celebration Saturday, December 2 Noon to 5 p.m. – SYG Christmas Tree Sale Head to B&K East to purchase a fresh, fragrant pine tree grown at Ide’s Christmas Tree Farm. Shiloh Youth Group will benefit from your purchase during these hours.

3 to 6 p.m. – Hanging of the Greens After selecting the perfect Christmas tree at B&K East, head to Shiloh for the Hanging of the Greens. There will be carols, food, fellowship, and lots of “decking the halls” at Shiloh. .

The poem below was written by a 15-year-old student in Minnesota who got an A+ for his efforts. Since the Lord's Prayer is not allowed in most U.S. Public schools any more, this boy wrote the following NEW School Prayer:

(Forwarded by Ben & Ruth Ann Yantis) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~ Now I sit me down in school Where praying is against the rule For this great nation under God Finds mention of Him very odd. If scripture now the class recites, It violates the Bill of Rights. And anytime my head I bow Becomes a Federal matter now. Our hair can be purple, orange or green, That's no offense; it's a freedom scene. The law is specific, the law is precise. Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice. For praying in a public hall Might offend someone with no faith at all. In silence alone we must meditate, God's name is prohibited by the State. We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks, And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks. They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible. To quote the Good Book makes me liable. We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen, And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King. It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong. We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong. We can get our condoms and birth controls, Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles. But the Ten Commandments are not allowed, No word of God must reach this crowd. It's scary here I must confess, When chaos reigns the school's a mess.. So, Lord, this silent plea I make: Should I be shot; My soul please take!

PUMPKIN DELIGHT Submitted by Nalu Shewalter This was served at the November Women’s Fellowship meal. Recipe from the kitchen of Linda Shewalter (Nalu’s sister-in-law) Note: This recipe is delicious. Be warned - it is not for dieters!!

Bake time: 1 to 1 ½ hours, depending on oven Ingredients: 5 eggs, beaten 1 cup sugar 1 (14 oz.) can Eagle Brand milk 1 (29 oz.) can solid pumpkin 1 tsp. Vanilla ½ tsp salt 1 tsp. cinnamon ½ tsp ginger ½ tsp nutmeg 2 ½ cups dry yellow cake mix 2 sticks margarine or butter (I used 1 stick + 1 T. butter) ½ to ¾ cups chopped pecans Whipped cream, optional Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Beat eggs, sugar, Eagle Brand, pumpkin, vanilla, salt, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg together. Pour into a greased 9 x 13 pan. Sprinkle approx. 2 1/2 cups dry yellow cake mix over the top. Sliver the margarine/butter thinly and place evenly over the top. Sprinkle with pecans. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. It is done when a knife inserted in middle comes out clean (mine took 1½ hours). Cool: and serve with whipped cream.

Shiloh’s Women Fellowship

is hosting a Christmas Party at the home of Faye Shanks on Wednesday, December 6th, at 6 p.m. All ladies of Shiloh are invited. Because of limited parking space, we will meet at Shiloh at 5:30 p.m. to carpool to Faye’s home. There will be festive food, fun, fellowship…and, of course, our famous Christmas ornament exchange. You are asked to bring a new, gift-wrapped Christmas ornament to participate in the frivolity. (This is one time during the year that Shiloh ladies are guilty of “stealing!”) Women’s Fellowship undertakes many worthwhile projects during the year, and this is a celebration for their efforts and a time to reflect on the true meaning of the Christmas season. The organization meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, and every woman attending Shiloh is welcome to attend. Officers for the upcoming year are: • • • •

JUST 4 MEN December 9 @ 7:30 a.m. After recently completing the Man Code study, we need to remind ourselves that we must live it out. To help us do that, we will be looking at some of the details and unanswered questions from BELIEVE. So at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, December 9, bring your thoughts and questions about the first 13 chapters. Have you read something that needs more explanation? Have you been able to think about the Case Studies each week in the Study Guide? Do you have comments that you want to share? We will do our best to get to everyone’s comments and thoughts. Just 4 Men is for men who are interested in growing in their faith through fellowship with other Christian men. We normally meet on the second Saturday of the month at 7:30 a.m. and head home by 9:00 to get on with Saturday stuff.

Even though no additional payments were made against the principal in September, there is still big news. The amount of the loan was taken below $650k during the month. Because of your consistent and generous gifts to GTIL it only took 6 months to reduce the loan from the previous milestone mark of $700k. This puts Shiloh within 24 weeks of the minimum goal of paying off the loan by December 14, 2029. If you are led to support the continued reduction of building loan, please obtain one of the pink GTIL envelopes at the Welcome Station, insert the gifts in the envelopes and place them in the offering plate to be blessed. Also, these envelopes can be placed in the metal drop box marked “GTIL” which is just outside the main entrance to the sanctuary.

Celebrate New Year’s Eve with Shiloh

Christmas Eve is a most “holy night.” This year the Christmas Eve Service will focus on that holy night when Jesus was born. In song and in spoken word, we will celebrate the invasion of God into our lives…an invasion that changed the world forever! The service will begin at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Come and experience a sweet time of worship of the newborn King. Communion will be served at the end of the service.

On Sunday evening, December 31st, Shiloh will gather at Myers’ Sport Bowl to celebrate New Year’s Eve. We have reserved 10 lanes. Participants will bowl two games each and then we will come to the church for pizza and board games. There is a sign-up sheet at the Inspiration Table so we will know how many bowlers we will have (if we are able to take 20 bowlers, the shoes will be free) and how much pizza to order. This is a family oriented event for New Year’s Eve.

MISSION SPOTLIGHT The Mission Spotlight shines on a different mission organization or missionary each month. Shiloh’s Benevolence Committee looks for gospel advancing opportunities and makes recommendations on how 15% of all regular offerings are distributed. One of the most rewarding parts of serving with this committee is getting to meet the missionaries who are in the field or preparing to go. This month we are shining the spot light on Claire Kidney.

Claire is a recent graduate of Purdue University. Her degree is in Human Development and Family Studies, and she also minored in Religious Studies. Last summer she spent several weeks in Berlin, Germany. The following is an excerpt from a blog she wrote while she was there. It explains some of how she got to where she is and shows her heart for the people she is planning to serve.

It’s been an incredible time of learning, new experience, and seeing God work in and through my team and I. I have met some amazing people in the past couple of weeks, and my heart for women being trafficked and marginalized peoples in general has grown a lot because of the things I’ve experienced. Because of safety reasons, I cannot share any information about the women that I met, but I would encourage each of you to watch the film Nefarious. We watched it as a team the day before we worked at the cafe, and it does a very good job of showcasing sex-trafficking in different parts of the world (Also, I’m pretty sure it’s on Netflix). I used this 6 week trip as a vision trip of sorts to confirm for myself and the team here that coming here for 2 years would work for me. Something I’ve been sorting out while here is which organization I would partner with and what exactly I would be doing here if I were to come back. I’m honestly still not positive what the answer to that is, but I think that the past couple of weeks have shown me a lot about what I’m good at and how God has gifted me. I think the Lord has given me compassion toward women being trafficked for a reason. I think that someone who works in a place like this needs to be able to set boundaries. I learned in school that healthy boundaries are what makes a “helper” good at their job-they need to be capable of empathizing while also separating themselves enough to still be

able to see the situation clearly and help. After talking with people that are already working in this cafe and at the safe house, talking with my team members, and praying, I feel like I am starting to understand why God might be calling me to work in anti-sex trafficking. I know for some friends and family, it might be hard to understand why I want to come back here or why I would want to put myself in such a difficult setting on a daily basis. I completely understand that, because I have thought that exact same thing many times. But, the truth is that wherever the Lord calls me, that is where I will go. He has given me natural talents and abilities toward working with and helping people with difficult backgrounds, and I want to use those talents for the glory of His kingdom. Claire is committed to a 2 year staff position with Reach Global, working at a recovery center for women who are leaving the sex trafficking industry. The center, called The Pink Door, provides counselling, classes, life skills, Bible study, and a 12-step recovery program. When we think of Germany, many of us think of the rich Lutheran history and might assume the Church is alive and well. Unfortunately, that is not true. Berlin is very much the cultural center of Europe, and has become a post-Christian culture. Most people do not understand the need for the Gospel. Only about 1.5% of the people are Christian. So please pray for softened hearts and for Claire and her team as they bring the light of the Gospel to Germany. https://clairekidney.wordpress.com/

Daily Bible Reading for December 2017 December, we will finish up our Bible reading for 2017. This has been a different experience reading because we have moved through the different types of biblical literature each day. Some of the reading load has been a little heavy…I’m sorry for that. You will have that experience in the Prophecy section this month. We will read the book of Revelation in 2 days. Let me encourage you to read a couple of different times each day. Or, you can read one chapter of Revelation each day. Again, I’m sorry – I apparently repeated some prophetic readings a couple of months ago. You can do this! You are close to the end…although you will only have a day to savor your success because we will begin all over in January!
