away from the routine of life back home. (Editor’s note: this is not true for all as many from Shiloh bring Pastor Tim bulletins from churches they attended on vacation.)

I love vacation…it’s not that I don’t enjoy my duties as Interestingly enough, God one of the pastors at Shiloh. Pastor Tim’s never takes a vacation. He It’s just that every so often I is always mindful of where Ponderings need to get away from work we are and what we are and study or other duties in doing. The 121st Psalm order to rest and recreate. tells us that God doesn’t Everybody does! I love our camper…it’s have a timeshare in the Bahamas or a great to sit around a campfire beach cottage or a cabin in the mesmerized by the flames. I mountains. In fact, the Psalmist tells us also like going to the city for that God not only doesn’t take a vacation a smorgasbord of activities from us, He never even takes a nap! that do not constitute work or God’s loving compassion for you and for study. My very favorite itinerary for vacation is to go anywhere with a box of books. When I get up in the morning, I read and then take a nap…read some more and nap again. It doesn’t matter if the venue is a beach with the ocean waves rolling in, the porch of a cabin with the hoot of an owl in the distance, or a balcony overlooking a street of frantic, noisy traffic. I love the rest & relaxation of vacation. Unfortunately, taking a vacation often means leaving behind the routine of daily devotions and attending worship. It is so easy to sleep in and then try to fill the day with all kinds of activities…forgetting about quiet time with Jesus. Sundays are often just another day of getting

campground, God is with us, watching over us, and caring for us in a multitude of ways. It seems like a small thing for me to attend worship & spend time with Him when I am out of the daily routine of life at home. These are my thoughts from the foothills of the Rockies…

Pastor Tim P.S…I’ll bring back a church bulletin!

As summer officially draws to a close, so does our series: Numbers of Hope. We have traced the verses Sermons with the “3:16 in September address” throughout the entire Bible. I trust that each week you have found something to offer you hope. Pastor Mark ends the series with a look at Revelation 3:16. The remaining three Sundays of September we will spend in the Book of Jonah in a series entitled, “You Can Run but You Can’t Hide.” What is God calling you to do in these days? How is He challenging you to grow in your faith? What does He want from you as you try to live out your faith in 2016? These questions (and MORE) will challenge & stimulate you in your walk with Jesus. September 4

Shiloh’s Best Kept Secret Revealed!!

The Shiloh Youth Group (SYG) has a Shop With Scrip program. By purchasing gift cards from SYG for your regular purchases, your everyday shopping makes a contribution to SYG. The process is simple. Just order gift cards for the places you normally shop, eat, buy gasoline, etc. then use the cards to make your regular purchases.

A Generation of Warriors Shiloh Youth Group, SYG, spent our summer sessions talking about prayer and being more prayerful. We finished the series by enjoying the movie War Room together. If you haven’t seen the movie, I don’t want to spoil it for you but it is about a family who is influenced by a real prayer warrior. My prayer is that we all are becoming greater prayer warriors. The newest local store on the list of over 300 merchants is Martin’s Supermarkets. If you buy groceries at Martin’s, your regular food purchase can help SYG. Martin’s gift cards are available in $50 increments and the youth get 4%. That means that if you buy two cards for $100, SYG gets 4 bucks and you get $100 worth of groceries. That may not sound like a lot for the youth but if everybody did that each month, it would add up in a hurry. Right now we order cards once a month following the 2nd Sunday and the cards are available by the 3rd Sunday of the month. September’s deadline to order is Sunday September 11th and we will have the cards by the 18th. The Shiloh Youth Group, especially those looking forward to a mission trip, wish to say thank you to everyone who contributed to the baskets that were auctioned in the silent auction during the pork loin dinner. We also want to thank the bidders and buyers of the baskets. This was more than a fund raiser. People in the community got to see that we are an active group not only at Shiloh but also serving other places.

The date has been set! I’m excited to announce I have set the date for my Senior Project! The Big Creek Benefit Concert will be October 22 with the Chili Supper being served from 5:00 – 6:15 p.m. and the concert following from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Even if you don’t want to sing, but want to help, there are opportunities available. Soon you will see a sign-up sheet to help with either the Chili Supper or Benefit Concert.

Please make sure to mark your calendar for this event and invite your friends and family. I guarantee you will be blessed with hearing the many vocal talents that have volunteered. I myself have been overwhelmed with gratitude towards all of you that have said “yes.” Currently there are at least 9 people / families that have agreed to participate and a few more that are tentatively signed up. Shiloh is blessed in so many ways!

Remember, all proceeds will be going to Big Creek Missions. This is where the Shiloh Youth Group and adult volunteers went this summer. If you’d like to learn more about them, log onto their website at: http://bigcreekmissions.com

COMING SOON… EQUIPPING THE SAINTS On Sunday, September 25th, Pastor Tim is going to facilitate a very basic class on “Knowing Why You Believe.” We’ll talk about topics such as: Is there a God?; Did Jesus Really Rise from the Dead?; Is the Bible God’s Word & Is It Reliable?; Are Miracles Possible?; and a whole lot more. This is an attempt to equip us to be prepared when we are called to witness to others. There will be teaching, discussion, and questions, but don’t expect answers for every question!  It will be a time for us to grow our faith to be better prepared for “life in the real world” or to “find hope” if you have none. The class will begin at 5 p.m. and end as close to 6 p.m. as possible. We will meet each Sunday evening until Thanksgiving.

New Sunday School Class God’s Word Affecting Our Lives Today Beginning Sunday, Sept. 11 (the Sunday after Labor Day), a new adult Sunday school class will begin. The format of the class will be heavy on discussion and interaction. The objective of the class will be to delve into the Word of God and see what it says for our lives today. It will not matter if you are well-versed in studying the Word, or if you are only beginning to look at the bible…together the class will engage in the scriptures and discover truths. Along with the bible, Into the Word by Anne Graham Lotz will be the supplemental text used for guidance. Annetta McKaig will be teaching the class. Bring a cup of coffee, a pen/pencil, and your Bible. The class will meet upstairs in the north classroom.

OKAY…so it’s not Elvis! It’s even better than Elvis!!! Beginning September 11th and continuing on September 25th and October 2nd, it’s another round of MEMBERSHIP CLASSES! Maybe you thought about attending classes in July but had other obligations OR maybe you just hesitated a moment too long. Well, step right up and e-mail or text Pastor Tim to let him know that you are interested. The classes will begin at 3:00 P.M. and be done by 4:15 at the very latest. At the end of the classes you will have a much better understanding of what it means to be a member of Shiloh and you will have a better picture of the ministry of Shiloh Christian Church. Don’t delay…don’t hesitate another minute. Let Pastor Tim know that you are interested at [email protected] OR text him at 574-727-4711.

Pork Loin Success Thank you to everyone who organized, sold tickets, set up, grilled, baked, served, cleaned, donated, ate, and prayed! We served 574 people and made $2,885.80 to go towards youth outreach! This labor of love will continue to impact lives with the love of Christ for years to come.

Mission Spotlight

of Labor data ranked Indiana 18th in the nation for underemployment* at 15%.

The Benevolence Committee meets each quarter to recommend how to disperse the 15% of regular Sunday School and Worship giving that Shiloh has committed to give. In a recent meeting a new recommendation was made. So this month’s Mission Spotlight is on Kokomo Rescue Mission. The following is information about them taken from their website: www.kokomorescuemission.org/

At the Kokomo Rescue Mission (KRM), we know statistics are more than numbers; they represent individual people who are homeless, hungry, and hurting. Since 1953, we have provided help and hope through emergency assistance and long-term programs that touch the mind, body, and heart.

Homelessness: Our Challenge, and What We Do

Shonna’s Story - “The Life I Deserve”

Kokomo Indiana is billed as the “City of Firsts” due to its rich heritage of inventions in the auto industry, alloy metals and the food industry. Howard County and the surrounding five county areas have a long history of steady employment in agriculture, automotive, steel and alloy product manufacturing. Unfortunately, the area has also seen its share of economic struggles over the years.

I was a terrible person. I did almost anything for drugs. I was violent, manipulative, a liar, and a thief — I was arrested six times for stealing. But the last time I went to prison, in 2014, I started going to church. One day, I felt God was talking to me. I opened my Bible and read: “Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life” (Isaiah 43:4). That’s when I gave my life to Jesus. And when I left prison that November, I came straight to Open Arms. Open Arms gave me the structure and stability I needed. And they held me accountable for all my actions. I’ve been surrounded by ladies who love me, and whenever I needed someone to talk to, no matter how crazy I got, they were there. God used them to show me I was worth far more than the abuse I’d experienced. And in the end, it’s that love, the relationships I made here, along with the grace they showed me here, that changed my life. God loves me and lives in me. That’s the life I deserve.

The 2007-08 economic crash hit hard and while the local economy has made some recovery, the permanent loss of many high wage and professional jobs continues to impact the overall economy and create challenges for our community. There are still many people in the six county area supported by the Kokomo Rescue Mission who need to know there is hope. At the Kokomo Rescue Mission, our staff and volunteers want to share hope, not just in the form of a hot meal, a warm night of shelter or a Red Ribbon Christmas box, but most importantly through the Good News of our Risen Savior, Jesus Christ. The Hurting, Hungry and Homelessness Factors such as medical issues, addictions, mental health problems and job loss can result in homelessness. In 2012, Howard County had 19.9% overall poverty rate and for children age birth to 17 the rate soared to 26.8%. During the 2013-14 school year 7,177 students in Howard County schools received free and reduced lunches (Indiana Youth Institute data). U.S. Department

Last year alone, KRM …     

Served 121,744 meals to hungry men, women, and children Provided 29,156 nights of shelter for our homeless neighbors Assisted 131 women and 100 children at the Open Arms Shelter Helped 513 men who stayed in our Men’s Shelter Dished out 2,246 Thanksgiving meals on Thanksgiving Day and in partnership with Kokomo Urban Outreach

And so much more. All in the name of Jesus. Won’t you join us in reaching out to the hurting in our community? *The underemployment statistic includes everyone affected by the declining job market including people who want to work but have not looked in the past four week and those who work part time but want to work full time.

Daily Bible Reading 2016 In September, we come to the end of the New Testament. The last several chapters of Revelation are an encouragement even though times are bad. We discover that in the end (cover your eyes – this is a spoiler alert) JESUS WINS! We are able to catch a glimpse of what all of eternity will be like for those who love Jesus. Later this month, and throughout the remainder of 2016, we will read the Psalms. The Psalmist helps us to work through all of the emotions that we feel as we live through the reality of life in chaotic times. The Psalmist helps us to understand our emotions in almost every circumstance of life. Happy Reading!
