April 3, 2013 RE: Laura Abbott
Laura was a student teacher at Sir Wilfrid Laurier School in Hamilton Ontario during the first semester of the 2012-‐2013 school year. Laura entered our school community with a positive energy and immediately jumped into a very challenging kindergarten classroom of twenty-‐eight students in each of two half day programs. She created positive relationships with the students, getting to know their strengths and needs and working cooperatively with her co-‐student and associate teacher to create effective and engaging learning opportunities and developing or sourcing resources to create effective inquiry driven centres. In the lessons I observed, students were engaged, expectations and learning goals were clear and links to the curriculum were evident. Ms. Abbott was enthusiastic, reflective and professional at all times while with us. The experience she provided the students has had a lasting positive impact on the classroom climate. I believe that Ms. Abbott will add value to any staff she is welcomed into. She has presented as open to learning, growing and sharing her ideas and experiences.
