SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS Be Meek Not Weak | Matthew 5:5
Discussion Starter
If you could go to any period of history, when and where would you go? Who would you want to meet? And of course…why?
Engaging the Word
The Beatitudes represent the bullet points for the core of the Gospel message. They point to everything Jesus said and did. They have impact today just as they did in Jesus’ time. Read them together (Matthew 5:3-12). As you read them remember that they were spoken to a Jewish crowd, who had Old Testament history and promise in mind.
Look at each Beatitude individually. What does each one mean? What are the promises & results of the beatitudes?
Personal Application
The nine Beatitudes are not a character development plan. They are God-given, Spirit-driven attributes of Kingdom People. We can grow and mature in them, but they are not naturally derived, they require God’s action. Consider what it means to mature in these Beatitudes:
Which Beatitudes are easiest for you to understand? o Which are most difficult to understand? Which Beatitudes seem to be most natural for you to exhibit and live out? If you had to pick one Beatitude which needed more development and maturity in you, which would it be? (There may be more than one; pick the top one).
