Solomon Middle and High School Weekly Memo Monday, September 29 Sunday, October 5
SCHOOL NEWS Eligibility – As an administration we have decided to run student eligibility reports on Monday mornings as opposed to Friday afternoons. This will allow staff to update student grades on Friday and over the course of the weekend. Homecoming Royalty Congratulations to our 2014 Homecoming Court. Colton Franklin, Blake Homman, Cody Watson, Morgan Clark, Madisen Johnson, and Jordain Ballue. The 2014 Homecoming King was Blake Homman and the Homecoming Queen was Madisen Johnson. Congratulations to Blake, Maddie and all of our candidates. Parent Teacher Conferences Solomon Middle and High School would like to thank all of our parents for attending conferences last week. I know Thursday was a little hectic with the home volleyball and football games, but hopefully parents were able to visit with teachers and discuss any academic or behavior concerns that your child might have. Parental and community support are vital for a successful school. We had approximately 60% of our middle and high school parents attend conferences.

Pep Bus Solomon High School will offer a pep bus for any middle or high school student interested in attending the Friday, October 3rd football game at Ellinwood. Students will need to bring $3 for admittance into the game and any money needed for concessions. We must have 12 students signed up by noon on Thursday, October 2nd or we will not take the pep bus. Marvin Brown Memorial On Friday evening the Solomon High School Booster Club dedicated the Marvin Brown statue on the east side of the football complex. Marvin Brown was killed in a fatal plane crash in the mountains of Colorado on October 2, 1970 while a member of the Wichita State Shocker football team. Marvin was a junior in college at the time of his death. He had aspirations of playing football in the NFL and coaching for the Solomon Gorillas. The statue was constructed by John McCoy of McCoy Bronze Works of Olathe. The Booster Club raised over $15,000 to complete this project. In attendance were Marvin’s family, former football coach, and former high school principal. This will be a lasting legacy for Solomon High School and we appreciate the Booster Clubs efforts in this project.
