CHCA MISSION CHCA exists to prepare students intellectually and spiritually for success in higher education and to impact and influence the world according to their unique gifts and talents.

COLLEGE GUIDANCE PHILOSOPHY We practice a holistic approach to college selection. This encourages students to identify colleges that will be the best “fit” academically, spiritually, socially, emotionally, etc. for the next four years.

FACTORS IN THE ADMISSION DECISION What are the most important factors in determining admissibility?  Grades  refers

not only to the overall GPA, but also grade trends by subject area and by year  Recalculating High School GPAs  Curriculum:  Test

rigor through senior year

Scores  Other potential influences: essay; demonstrated interest; recommendations; interview

STANDARDIZED TESTING PSAT The PSAT/MNSQT is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholars (11th grade only)

SAT       

Score 400-1600 5 Reading passages No Science Questions take more time to understand Calculator cannot be used on all math sections Both test the same math skills Essay is optional

ACT       

Score 1-36 4 Reading passages Science section to test critical thinking skills Questions tend to be more straightforward Calculator can be used on all math questions Both test the same math skills Essay is optional

3 excused absences for college visits junior & senior years



Must complete Campus Visit Request Form located in the Guidance Office



Call ahead or schedule the visit online. Do the official visit.

Type of institution (four year, coed, private, Christian, etc)



Geographic location (region, state, distance from home)



Setting (urban, rural, suburban)



Major/curriculum/special program (liberal arts, technical, business, co-op, honors)



Size of institution (small, medium, large, very large)



Selectivity (very difficult, moderately difficult, open)



Cost (tuition, room and board, books, fees, travel, financial aid)



Diversity (race, religion, national, international, age)
