Thank you to all members and friends of SPE Vietnam Section for your active participation at the monthly technical meetings. We are looking forward to meetsing you at the upcoming events. SPE proudly introduce our October Technical Talk: “SAMPLING & MEASURING PRESSURES WHILE DRILLING – NUMEROUS BENEFITS” Presented by Mr. Bui Huu Phuoc, Hoang Long – Hoan Vu JOC. Time: 11.45 a.m – 1.45 p.m, Friday 9th October 2015 Venue: Ballroom 1 & 3, Level 2, Duxton Hotel, HCMC The Te Giac Trang (TGT) oil field is located in the northern part of Block 16-1, Cuu Long Basin, offshore Vietnam and is operated by Hoang Long Joint Operating Company (HLJOC). Block 5 is located in the southern part of the field and was discovered by well X1. The principal challenge for the first Block 5 development well was to confirm the fluid distribution in the reservoirs covered by DST3 in well X1. In order to do this HLJOC deployed the “Sampling While Drilling” tool for the first Block 5 development well. This talk reviews the numerous benefits of “Sampling While Drilling”, which include confirming the distribution of reservoir fluids, obtaining reservoir fluid samples with low contamination, proving up OIIP from the target reservoirs, giving improved understanding of the Block 5 area by observing pressure communication with the production area, avoiding multiple DSTs in the first development well and hence giving significant cost saving. The speaker, Mr. Bui Huu Phuoc has 10-years’ experience in the Oil and Gas industry and currently works as a Senior Geologist at Hoang Long Hoan Vu JOC. His areas of expertise include log analysis in low resistivity and thin bed reservoirs, pressure analysis and petrophysical evaluations, integration of core, borehole images and conventional logs for depositional and reservoir characterization. He is also experienced in production log interpretation for geological model update. Mr. Phuoc obtained a B.Sc degree from Ha Noi University of Mining and Geology and M.Sc. degree from Ho Chi Minh University of Technology, both in Petroleum Geology. He is currently studying PhD of Petroleum Geology Engineering in Ha Noi University of Mining and Geology.
