TECHNICAL PROGRAM The mission of SPE is to collect, disseminate and exchange technical knowledge and related technologies in exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources, for the public benefit, and to provide opportunities for professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence. Technical meetings and discussions are one of the best ways to directly share technical knowledge in the global oil and gas E&P industry, as well as to build up and strengthen communication between professionals from different companies.

The Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) industry continues to diversify. New LNG markets are appearing and trading patterns continue to evolve. Shale gas has already affected this industry and its full effects have yet to be seen. Floating LNG (FLNG) attracts strong interest. This capital-intensive industry requires long lead-times and special contractual relationships between sellers and buyers. Base-load plants are being constructed in new regions and the traditional LNG supply-demand pattern is becoming increasingly complex. This presentation illustrates some key developments in the world of LNG. Important changes in the trade required investment levels and the technology are described in this rapidly growing and changing business

Since April 2014, 7 monthly meetings with 8 technical presentations have been arranged, including 3 topics presented by SPE Distinguished Lecturers and a technical presentation provided by SPE President Dr. Jeff Spath on in the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Vietnam Section. The meetings covered a wide range of E&P topics and have attracted a great deal of attention from technical professionals of Vietnam’s oil & gas industry. Our objective is to focus on the most attractive and interesting presentation topics, but trying to keep a good balance between exploration, development and production areas in order to satisfy the whole industry demand. We will also continue a well justified practice to arrange monthly meetings in different locations – Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Vung Tau; amongst other benefits, it will help to attract and invite new audiences for the meetings.

- 19th August 2014 Challenging Reservoirs and SPE’s Role & Mission Presented by PhD. Jeff Spath, SPE President

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all members and friends of SPE Vietnam Section for your active participation at monthly technical meetings, and looking forward to meet you at our next events.

The first SPE Vietnam sponsored workshop.

The visit of Dr. Jeff Spath SPE President, August 2014

ACTIVITIES OF HANOI UNIVERSITY OF MINING & GEOLOGY SPE STUDENT CHAPTER (2014) Every year, HUMG Student Chapter organizes an Introduction Day to summarize the Chapter activities of the school year, presenting the newly elected chapter officers and their plans for the next year. This year, the Introduction Day, held on March 28, 2014, was a big success, drawing more than 100 students, faculties, alumni and YPs. “SPE and You” and “The life cycle of an oil Field” were two presentations that provided students information about SPE, the benefits of joining, and a glimpse of what their future career might look like.

Our contact: Ms. Trang - [email protected] THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST!

This year marked the first time that HUMG SPE Student Chapter hosted full-day soft-skill workshops for HUMG SPE students. The workshops were 100% sponsored by SPE Vietnam Section. The first workshop – “CV Preparation and Interview” – was held on May 18, 2014 and the second one – “Presentation & Communication skills”, was held on October 19, 2014. Another workshop is scheduled for November. Attendance of these softskill workshops was limited to ~40 students, a fraction of the number of students interested in participating. Therefore, a registration and screening process was implemented to choose the “lucky” HUMG students for the workshops. The first two workshops were highly received with excellent evaluations reported.

Year 2014 features a number of successful events by YPs. Apart from Technical Seminars, Ambassador Lecturer Programs held in familiar institutions such as The University of Natural Science HCMC, The University of Technology HCMC, and various highschools, Year 2014 observes the participation of PVU in the list of YPs’ destinations. The first ALP in PVU went beyond expectations and was welcomed excitingly.

Besides, the volunteers have handed over encouraging gifts to the kids such as school bags, notebook, uniforms, young pioneers accessories, stationary, life vests… and snacks at the destination schools. The trips were well organized and recognized by not only the members but also the local authorities and especially the kids.

YOUNG PROFESSIONAL

This year, beside symbolic events mentioned above, YPs board of management have implemented successfully new networking programs held in Spotted Cow Saigon. ….. This program provided a playground for the participants to connect, exchange knowledge and experiences, as well as became an opportunity for SPE YP to explore the YPs demand in Vietnam. The success of these events built confidence in YP board of management, as well as contributed in stronger bonds between existing members, and engagement of the new members. 2014 is also the first year that SPE Vietnam approved $5,000 to be used from the charity account for YPs. The funds were sufficient for 4 volunteer trips approaching kids in at remote regions of Vietnam in An Giang, Ca Mau, Can Gio, Tay Ninh, Dak Nong, featuring educational activities such as: folk games, handover of books and bookshelves, reading corner and logic developmen

Members of the volunteers are the students from various universities in Ho Chi Minh City and PVU plus YPs from oil and gas industry such as Bien Dong POC, Schlumberger, Baker Hughes, PVEP POC… They have devoted their time and skills to the success of these volunteer trips. Established in June 2014, SPE facebook fanpage has attracted approximately 600 followers after 3 months. This significant factor has contributed to the spread of information, engagement with the members, sending out online registration forms for the events, as well as receipt of feedback from the YPs members and students.

Still in year 2014, YPs is looking forward to the remaining events including the field trip with topic “Fractured Basement Reservoir” and some soft skill training sessions.
