Friday 7th March Dear Parents, Our new website was launched this week. We will continue to add to it in the coming weeks. A representative from the Catholic Children’s Society visited this week to promote their Lenten Appeal, ‘Star of Hope’. Every child took home a collection box to in which to place money during Lent for the appeal. The children were encouraged to do things at home and in school which required them to make an extra effort during Lent. Swimming Money : Please note Swimming Money for Year 4 is now overdue. As advised last week the fee is £25.60p (£17.96p if your child is in the choir). Please be sure to make the correct payment. For your child. Payments may be made using Wisepay or by cheque payable to school and sent in in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name, class and “swimming money”. Scholastic Book Fair: We are very lucky to have the Scholastic Book Fair back in school next week. Scholastic supply us with mobile bookcases packed with the very best books to help our pupils to develop a life-long love of reading. Every child received a copy of the Scholastic catalogue today so take time to look at new and exciting books as well as the classics. The Fair will run from Monday 10th to Friday 14th March from 3.20- 4.00pm. On Monday and Thursday we will be set up in the dining room and on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday we will be in the hall. As a school we benefit from the book fair as every book sold earns us rewards for free books from Scholastic. We look forward to seeing you all on Monday. Parent/Teacher consultations take place from Monday 17th March to Thursday 20th March. Lists will be available in the front entrance from 8.45 a.m. on Monday 10th March. If you are unavailable to come to the school, please phone the school office after 9.30 a.m. to make an appointment. Each appointment is for ten minutes if you feel you have something to discuss with your child’s class teacher which cannot be discussed in that time, please make a separate appointment. Mrs Bates’ Class will lead the assembly next Wednesday 12th March. We will also celebrate birthdays and achievements on this occasion. Parents, relatives and friends are welcome to join us. Thank you for all your generous donations of cakes last week. We raised an amazing £170 which will be used to sponsor a panda or two!

There will be a joint schools Mass on Sunday 16th March at 9.30a.m. in the Church. We encourage all families to attend. The children are asked to wear their school uniform on this occasion. Congratulations to the netball team who played against Bowmansgreen School last night and had a resounding victory; 15-0. Thank you to the dedicated team of volunteers who coach the girls, if you are interested in helping speak to Mrs King. Chess Club: A very big thank you is due to our gallant team of chess players who turned out on Friday for two games against older and more experienced players from local schools. Again, we were by far the youngest team and fielded the most girls. Our team (all year 3), most ably captained by Molly, was as follows: 1. Felix: 2. Harley: 3. Jessica: 4. Molly (captain): 5. Lilia: 6. Vacancy. Our normal board 1, Leon, was unable to play so Felix fearlessly stepped into the breach to play top board. All games were hard fought and I was greatly impressed by the fighting spirit and resilience of all our players. Apart from the two match games the team managed to fit in a number of friendly games as well. Everyone gained from the experience and it has given me some ideas of topics to cover during our lunchtime club. The third and final day of the competition will be on Friday 28th March. New players are always welcome and we can always find you someone to play! PTA NEWS – 7th March 2014: The SSAS PTA are delighted to announce the February 2014 PTA lottery winners.
