St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Vestry Meeting Minutes October 24, 2016

Vestry Present: Tim Bradshaw, Jon Cookson, Nelia Cunningham, Becky Friant, Charlie Herron, Beverley Howard, Keith Kramer, Betty O’Neill, Kathy Richards, Rick Snyder. Vestry Absent: Winkle McKinley, Alice Payne. Others Attending: Todd Dougan (Clerk), Fr. Steve White (Priest in Charge). A regular meeting of St. Paul’s Vestry was held October 24, 2016 and called to order with prayer at 6:00 pm by Fr. Steve White, Priest in Charge. I. Approval of Minutes of Prior Meeting The minutes of the September 18, 2016 meeting were approved unanimously on a motion by Kathy Richards duly seconded. II. Consent Agenda The consent agenda consisted of a report from the Rector and the financial statements for September and both were discussed separately below. The consent agenda items were accepted unanimously on a motion by Kathy Richards duly seconded. III. Additional Comments from Consent Agenda Items 1. Fr. Steve reported that he visited St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hamilton, NY and that the Vestry there was unanimously in support of us becoming sister parishes. 2. Kathy Richards noted that cash was higher at the end of September since the roof loan had been received. IV. Unfinished/Continuing Business 1. Rick Snyder reported the following: a. The work on the main roof is underway. b. Two estimates had been received for repair and recap of Berndt Hall, with the low bid of $2,400 from Ronnie Vickers. This was approved unanimously on a motion by Rick duly seconded. c. An estimate to install trim siding on the Annex had been received from Henry Adams for $3,200. This was approved unanimously on a motion by Rick duly seconded. 2. Fr. Steve reported that the Day School study group was meeting later in the week.

V. Other or New Business 1. Fr. Steve provided an update on the stewardship campaign, with 65 pledges received for about 70% of the $400,000 goal and noted that most of the pledges have increased from the prior year. 2. Fr. Steve reported that St. Christopher's would be hosting a Thanksgiving dinner on November 20th. 3. Fr. Steve suggested the following delegates for the 33rd Diocese of East Tennessee Convention to be held on February 10-11, 2017 and July 28 (end date tbd), 2017: Pat Van Zandt, John Bellamy, Leslie Forrester, with alternates Jeff Waddell, Kathy Richards, Eleanor Cwirko. This slate of delegates was approved unanimously on a motion by Nelia Cunningham duly seconded. 4. Nelia Cunningham reported on behalf of Winkle McKinley that the arrangements for the last 2 events for the Centennial were underway (December 7th at Allandale Mansion and December 14th service and reception, including the Bishop rededicating the church). VI. Church Safety Review Beverley Howard gathered the surveys from the Vestry members present and asked for safety concerns. The concerns were theft, vandalism, and the nursery. Potential measures were discussed, such as lighting, signs, cameras, radios, updated procedures, and AED (automatic electronic defibrillator). Beverley, Fr. Steve, and Todd Dougan will being developing a plan for Vestry consideration. VII. Dismissal The meeting concluded with the Lord’s Prayer and was adjourned at 7:10 pm.
