1 STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE GREAT CONSOLIDATED POPULAR PARTY (GCPP) AT THE CENTRAL REGIONAL CONSULTATIVE FORUM ON THE LONGTERM NATIONAL DEVELOMENT PLAN Delivered by John Amekah Date: 16 November 2015 Venue: Pempamsie Hotel, Cape Coast
Mr. Chairman, Honourable Regional Minister, Chief Executives present, all protocols observed; The Great Consolidated Popular Party supports NDPC in working hard to give to Ghana a development plan. We support the consultative forum that it is organising in the 10 regions to listen to the ideas of Ghanaians for a long-term plan. We salute NDPC. We also commend the current government under which this initiative is taken place. Mr. Chairman, We believe that any nation where the people are rich, they can pay their bills. In this vein, we believe that this long-term plan must make Ghanaians rich so they can pay their own bills at all times. But how can this happen? The GCPP believes that our huge human and material resources, when tapped, can make this country a rich country. What are these materials? We need to add value to our agricultural products through agro-processing industry that will create jobs for many Ghanaians who are currently unemployed. We believe that for us to have a sustainable energy for Ghana, we have to go solar because the sun is there to give us energy at all times and we will not spend money to go and buy gas or anything. The sun will never stop until this world has come to an end. We believe that this long-term plan should also enable us to exploit foreign markets, such as ECOWAS, Africa and Europe. The plan should enable vision for local producers to export goods without any difficulty. We believe that the plan should also recognise cash crops that we have like cotton which we can use to produce our own clothing
2 The plan should also recognise that we should be able to produce enough to feed ourselves, feed our industries and be able to export and store some for the future. A plan without any of these elements means that we will have to rely on imports and we will still be marking time 40 years from now. Therefore the plan that we are putting in place must promote exports for us to have more money in our country. This is GCPP’s position and we believe that the plan will be given us such programmes. Thank you.
