1 STATEMENT BY THE PROGRESSIVE PEOPLE’S PARTY (PPP) Delivered by Ms. Eva Lokko, PPP Vice Presidential Candidate Date: 13th August, 2015 Venue: Crystal Rose Hotel, Kumasi -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------First of all, I want to say thank you for the idea of developing a long-term national plan for Ghana. Ayekoo! But this is just the first step towards when the plan is finally implemented. The development plan should be mandatory, embarked on fully, and there should be a medium-term plan in it that will be dynamic and reviewed and revised according to set procedures and processes. It must be variable and modifiable, to suit the demands of that season. Every single Ghanaian should participate in putting this plan together so that there is full ownership. Everybody knows this phrase about, if you doing something, you need to plan. And I know nobody plans to fail, but the thing is that we always fail to plan. And because we don’t know where we are going, and therefore we don’t know who to hold accountable, so we welcome this plan and we hope that NDPC would make the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) a full partner. We need the NCCE to fulfill the mandate of educating all Ghanaians to understand why there is the need for a 40year plan and to understand the elements of the 40-year plan. We need the NCCE because to implement such a plan, we need a new Ghanaian, a Ghanaian with the right attitude towards responsibility. We know our rights. But rights come with responsibilities. We need the NCCE to get us all on that platform. We are responsible for the development of Ghana. We believe that there are certain organisations like the public health nursing service. If we don’t bring them along in this plan we would still have our sanitation problems to deal with. I think this is one of the most important things that’s affecting our health and therefore our productivity and therefore our development. Last but not the least, we need the town council back. We need them back to help us with sanitation. So congratulations NDPC. We are behind you so long as you follow this vision. Thank you very much.
