Here for a class? Look for the purple awning Groups and classes that meet at Always In Stitches are encouraged to park on the west side of the building and use the employee entrance. You can’t miss that entrance – and you won’t get wet when the weather isn’t nice. There’s a purple awning all along the walkway.

Service projects make everyone feel good Thirty quilts and 33 pillowcases were donated in March to Linus Blankets and ConKerr Cancer, thanks to our customers’ talent and big hearts. Amanda Langerman, Caitie Copple and Mayme Fish made four of the quilts, while Morgan Elizabeth Abernathy stitched the pillowcases. Kate Fortney brought in 26 additional quilts that Girl Scouts made during the Manuka Service Unit bake-off. Linus and ConKerr Cancer are among several AIS service projects. Customers also donate cell phones for Prevail; medicine bottles for FAME Africa; blankets, hats, and other handmade items for Good Samaritan Network; and shoes for Soles4Souls. . INSIDE THIS ISSUE 2

Create a quilt to honor Hall of Famer Quilters are invited to make and donate a small quilt for the “Salute to Eleanor Burns” contest. Proceeds from entry fees will support the Quilters Hall of Fame, which is inducting Eleanor this year, and the Marie Webster House, which houses the hall in Marion. Quilts may be pieced, appliquéd or mixed media but each must use at least one block from an Eleanor Burns pattern or book. Entries will be displayed at the McCulloch School and sold during the Hall of Fame Celebration, June 19-22. The quilter who wins first place will be awarded $100; second- and third-place winners will receive $50 each. Finished quilts and the $10 entry fee are due June 30. For more details, get information at the shop.

Big prints star In Grizzly Gulch quilts Let the Grizzly Gulch Gallery trunk show inspire you in ways to use large prints and big blocks in your quilts. The show is set up in the center of Always In Stitches through the end of April. Grizzly Gulch, founded in 2005 by awardwinning fiber artist Ann Lauer, specializes in original quilt patterns, books, kits, handmade quilts and custom-designed quilts. Themes include traditional, contemporary, art, pictorial, nature and Northwest in patterns and kits for all types and sizes of quilts. Among the items on display in the shop are the Love That Print and Just the Right Angle quilts, which Grizzly Gulch calls a fat quarter stash buster.

BOUND TO PLEASE

Everything’s special about these baby quilts As quilt designer Patrick Lose says in the introduction to his newest book, there’s no faster way “to shift a quilter into high gear than to announce a baby on the way.” “Special Delivery Quilts 2” features patterns for 10 cuddly baby quilts that are suitable for beginning quilters. Good Night, Sleep Tight will have the child and parent – or grandparent – counting sheep. A big-eyed baby with one golden curl peeks at the world in the Baby in a Buggy pattern. For something more traditional, take a look at XOXO or Sawtooth Star Spectrum. If there’s a birth, baby shower, christening or first birthday in your future, you’ll want “Special Delivery Quilts 2” in your sewing room library. Look for it and other pattern books for children on the round rack behind the cutting table in the front of the shop.

Redbud quilt show showcases 1,984 years of experience The Redbud Quilt Guild bills its May 18-19 show as one with 1,984 years of quilting experience on display.

Zipped, it’s a bag; unzipped, it’s a zipper Ruth Middleton will show you how to turn a zipper into a bag that you can zip or unzip as much as you choose. The Zipper Bag uses a 5 ½-yard spool of Sullivan’s Make-a-Zipper, a little fabric or ribbon, a button and a ponytail elastic. Making the project requires a zipper foot so it’s recommended for intermediate and advanced sewers. For a fun gift, package it completely unzipped and let the recipient figure out how to use it. The Zipper Bag class is 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 28. It is $25 plus supplies, which include “Mary Mulari’s Zip and Carry Bags” book that has 10 clever projects for Make-a-Zipper.

But it should count as spring cleaning

The show will feature all types of quilts and quilted items, as well as vendors, bazaar, a raffle quilt and door prizes for everyone. The show is 10-7 May 18 and 10-4 May 19 at First Baptist Church, 907 N. Raible Ave., Anderson A $5 donation will allow entry on both days. The guild meets the first Thursday of every month at 10 a.m., also at First Baptist. Guests may attend three meetings without paying dues, which are $10 a year. Members with all levels of quilting experience are welcome. To see samples of members’ work, visit http://americanhomestead.blogspot.com/2012/02/r edbud-quilt-guild-february-2012.html
