Article 5: Amend Bylaw Town Property
What is Town property?
Town property is the Town’s possessions, not including real estate
We dispose of it when it is no longer useful or when it is broken
Why make a change?
Municipal disposition of property is governed by Mass. Gen. Law 30B Section 15
The Town also has a bylaw regarding the disposition of property.
The thresholds for disposal of property in the state law is $10,000 and in the local bylaw is $5,000
We are respectfully requesting to increase the threshold to match the state law. ($5000 to $10,000)
This would create better efficiency within the town and allow us to more easily dispose of property in compliance with state and local law
Another addition
Also added language to make certain that the Town is using appropriate methods for disposition of goods, including quotes, auction, yard sale or online auction service.
Amendment
We are requesting to add additional language that would allow us to sell the property to other communities.
