Stockley Park Team Landscape Maintenance Nurture Landscapes Ltd Appointed as of 1st July 2013 Green and sustainability Initiatives

Battery Powered Tools The introduction of latest technologies at Stockley Park, battery powered hand held powered equipment, including hedge cutters, strimmer, blowers and chainsaws. The benefits of battery powered equipment over the traditional petrol engine models include:        

Reduction of fossil fuel usage, recharged through national grid. No emissions at point of use. Modern efficient motors. Long life battery units. No refuelling /spillage risks. Quieter noise operation compared to traditional 2-stroke equipment. Battery back mounted with harness to reduce fatigue and manual handling issues. No engine, reduction of hand arm vibration.

Newly delivered battery powered strimmers and hand blowers.

Recycling of Green Waste The green arising produced from the landscape maintenance operations is by far the largest amount of waste generated at Stockley Park. There is a great potential to recycle and re-use this material to the benefit of the landscape at Stockley Park and the environment as a whole. The grass clipping, hedge/tree pruning and leave litter can all by recycled by a process of shredding and composting to create a mulch that can be dressed on planted areas. Benefits of re-cycling:   

Useful process to deal with site risings. Reduction of material to landfill. Material managed on site, movement of material away from site eliminated.

Benefits of Mulch:      

Application of nutrients and minerals to soil. Organic plant fertiliser. The mulch acts as an agent to retain moisture in soil. The mulch reduces surface moisture evaporation. The mulch as a weed suppressant Mulch also has an aesthetic appeal.

The initial greenwaste arising generated at Stockley Park from the start of the contract 1st July 2013 where shredded into compost runs during November this year. Nature’s bacteria will now continue to breakdown the shredded material which will be ready to use as a mulch over the 2014/15 winter period. Once the recycling process is established there will be a continuing supply of organic green mulch available for use at Stockley Park.
