WHY WE BELIEVE IN WORLD MISSIONS BIG IDEA Our identity as a community is united in Christ locally and around the world. STARTER | a place to start to help get the conversation going with your small group What is the farthest from home you’ve ever been? Have you ever been out of the country? What was the most unique thing you experienced while you were in that culture? What did you enjoy the most? STUDY | Start digging. Read Scripture about WHY WE BELIEVE in World Missions. Read Colossians 1:15-23 Read Colossians 3:11-15 DISCUSS | a conversation about the Bible and principles from Scripture From Colossians 1:15-23 •What does this passage teach us about Jesus’ role in creation? •Verse 15 says, “Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.” What does that mean? •Why does it matter that Jesus was not created, but has always existed with His Heavenly Father? •What does this passage say about how all people can be reconciled to God through Jesus Christ? •According to Colossians 1:21-22, how does our standing before God change when we have a relationship with Jesus? •What do you think Paul means in verse 23 when he cautions the church at Colossae (and it is instruction for us today) to make sure they don’t drift away? From Colossians 3:11-15 •What does verse 11 say about Christ unifying people from different backgrounds and cultures? •How does Paul instruct Christians to treat one another? •How can living out this passage help us live on mission? DO | Consider how to apply these biblical principles to your life today. •What are the contributing factors when you drift away from Christ? •What or who helps you to stay near to and focused on Christ?

WHY WE BELIEVE IN WORLD MISSIONS

STUDYGUIDE

•How can you be a credible witness for Christ this week? •What matters in all of this talk about world missions is Jesus Christ. Our identity as a community is united in Him. Why is it easy for us to drift away from focusing on the global Church and our global partners around the world? •Do you know a missionary who serves abroad? If not, what are ways you will pursue to learn about our global partners at Connection Pointe? •Have you ever had an opportunity to go on a domestic or global mission trip? What was it like? What did God teach you during that time? •Have you considered going on a global impact trip in the near future? PERSONAL REFLECTION & RESPONSE | Take time this week to reflect on the study and discussion. •What did this study teach me about God? •What did it show me about myself? •What is at least one way I respond and apply this teaching to my life? •How will I pray about this during the week? PERSONAL NEXT STEPS | suggested next steps for this week We are called to a life on mission in our church, community and around the world.
