TIM OLIVE-BIO Twelve years ago, Tim went through a series of personal crises that shattered his business. For the next eight years, he fought to recover, constantly struggling to keep up with the rapid changes in technology, the market, and visual changes. Three years ago he almost closed his studio for good, when someone offered to help him overcome what was described as burnout. What he discovered helped him more than double his fees, turned his business around, and gave him the best year in 30 years last year. Tim is very active with his peers, promoting cooperation and networking among photographers. He's a Vice President of APA National, and one of the main architects of APA's recent rebirth. He's also director of the popular APAnet and APAdigital newsgroups, and is in the process of introducing two innovative programs for helping photographers achieve success in their careers. What it took Tim 30 years to learn, he will be sharing with us in this seminar. Starting by showing his own work for reference, he will discuss attitudes and approaches to building strong client relationships, getting the best possible work, and how to get paid more for it. For two decades, Tim filled art directors' portfolios and award annuals with advertising photography. He's won repeated recognition including Communications Arts Annuals, the New York One Show (Gold award), the Kelley Awards, and Advertising's Ten Best of the Decade, 1980-1990. His work has appeared frequently in AdWeek Magazine's What's New Portfolio, his self promotion has been featured in American Photographer magazine and the book The Perfect Portfolio, and his olive logo (by Preuit Holland) won a gold award at the New York One Show. His commitment to conceptual communication rather than subject has inspired art directors to use him for a variety of work, for many prominent national clients.
