Business Description: Originally called St. Paul Diversified Products and Solutions, the company’s business is the design, construction and distribution of the “Suds Sentry” washing machine pan - a polystyrene, molded product that provides a base for the washing machine. If the water hoses should fail or if the washing machine runs over, the Suds Sentry directs the water to the drain preventing costly damage. Projects: SPDP’s main business is with large residential/commercial projects on which multiple washing machines are installed.
Solution: Offer a simple, easy-to-install product that can virtually eliminate the cost of clean-up and corresponding property damage resulting from washing machine faulty hook-ups, disconnects and overflows. Owner’s Background: Lisa Granse Weglewski is the current owner of SPDP & Solutions. Lisa worked with her parents in the family business since she was old enough to handle a broom. As is often the case in family businesses, she got to know a lot about the company and the industry in which it operated. When her dad passed away about four years ago, Lisa and her siblings decided that she was in the best position to take over the business. SCORE’s Involvement: Even though Lisa knew what the moisture mitigation business was all about, she felt a need to learn more about working with key industry people. She learned of SCORE through a friend and requested free mentoring. With a background in distribution and working with industrial reps, Greg Ochs was assigned as Lisa’s mentor.
