Highfield Community Primary School Physical Education Report – Summer 2015 Subject Leaders – Deborah Doherty and Dan Irving Summary - Summer Term 2015 The school has been allocated £8916 of Sport premium money for the academic year 2014/2015. This money will be spent on delivering high quality physical education and school sport and encouraging our children to adopt healthy lifestyles. We have certainly ended the year on a high when it comes to PE and School Sport in Highfield. There have been many reasons to celebrate achievement and successes in the summer term, a result of the hard work and continuous provision that has been put in place across the school year. In total we have entered 30 festivals and tournaments across the school year. These have either been organised by Gateshead SSP or held at Thorp Academy as part of our cluster agreement. At these events, 88 children from Year 1 -6 have been involved. We have had 10 after school clubs running across the year, 84 pupils attended these with 100% of Key Stage 2 being involved at some point during the year. The staff have attended 9 different training courses over the year, leading to an improved subject knowledge and good quality PE lessons across the school. Alongside this, we have had 6 external coaches in school and every child in school has had access to this. Team PE has set up a school sports crew to work alongside them in organising school sport. Their first challenge was to organise our Sainsbury’s School Games Day, a celebration event to represent the work in intra-competition across the year. The day was opened by a variety of performances by different classes including a gymnastic display, a dragon dance and an interpretation of the Haka. From this the children entered into a day packed full of activity, competition and fun. The events were all lead and managed by Sports Leaders who did an incredible job of delivering instructions and supporting the pupils. We have submitted several applications for various awards through the local authority and are hoping to achieve Sainsbury’s School Games Gold status. At the time of writing we are waiting to hear if we have been successful in any of these. Finally, we must mention the nine children and staff who completed the Coast 2 Coast bike ride. An amazing achievement of 146 miles in 4 days. All in all it has been a great year for School Sport in Highfield, we have given ourselves a great platform to build on. Cricket tournament
