Summer Break Collection Guide

Collecting During Summer Break Summer break doesn’t mean your TerraCycle collections have to stop. Your school can easily set up TerraCycle collection drop-off points to keep those collections, and those TerraCycle points, coming in. Follow the steps in the timeline below to get started! May:

1. Identify a location for students and parents to drop off their collections over the summer. This could be your school, local library, or community center. Make sure you discuss your plans for installing a collection location with the staff at each potential location. 2. Identify Collection Leaders to maintain each collection location. These collection leaders will be responsible for storing and shipping the waste at their assigned locations throughout the summer. Approach school administration, parents, teachers, or older students as possible collection leaders.

June:

1. Complete and distribute the “TerraCycle Summer Collection Guide” (attached here) to students before they leave for summer break. TerraCycle Tip: Upload information about your summer collection drop-off locations to your school’s website! 2. Visit each classroom and spend 5 – 10 minutes explaining what you are collecting and where they can drop off their collections throughout the summer. 3. Meet with your Collection Leaders and distribute the “Collect, Store, and Ship Guide” to help them manage your summer collections.

June, July, 1. Maintain contact with your Collection Leaders to ensure that collections are coming in at a steady pace. and August:

2. Remind parents to collect throughout the summer. Either mail out the materials, or choose the eco-friendly option and email parents.

September: 1. When your students arrive back at school, inform them of

total waste and/or total TerraCycle points that they collected.
