Transfer day Children in Year 6 must come to AJS to be registered at 8.50am before being accompanied by our staff to the Academy. Our staff will then collect the children and return to AJS before the end of the school day so they are ready to be collected at 3.25pm. Children not attending Attleborough Academy Transfer Day should attend school here as normal please. Children in Y3, Y4 and Y5 have been given a letter to bring home today detailing their new class – they will spend the morning on Monday 20th June with their new teachers and return to their current class after lunch.
Once again we have a huge amount of items sitting unclaimed in lost property. Children may not be wearing sweatshirts in this warmer weather so may not realise they have misplaced one. Please feel free to call into the office from where someone will escort you to collect any items. As a general reminder, please try to ensure that all items are named
Friday 24th June Non-Uniform Day Children may come to school in non-uniform and bring a bottle for the tombola at this year’s Summer Feteplease ensure the bottle is new, in date and sealed. Thank you in advance.
Ladies Cycle Tour On Wednesday the Ladies Cycle Tour passed our school and we all went out onto the front grass to watch. Waving flags and shouting encouragement, all the children enjoyed seeing the women racing along this stage of the tour. Children in Years 4 & 5 had each been completing a booklet in conjunction with Active Norfolk. They had to complete Maths, Literacy, Art & Design topics to earn stickers and in class they used maps to pin-point towns the race was passing through. Cycle wheels decorated by our ancilliary groups within school are on display in our Reception Area. We joined in with the shops & businesses in Attleborough to produce these for the tour riders to see.
Are you finding it difficult to encourage your child to read during this football frenzied month? We are all aware that Euro 2016 started on 10 June and runs until 10 July in France and we all have our hopes for our teams to do well, but did you know that this summer also marks the centenary of the beginning of the Battle of the Somme (on 1st July)? Both of these events are likely to receive a great deal of coverage this summer. The National Literacy Trust and children’s author Tom Palmer have put together three tips on how you can use children’s interest in both these big stories to encourage them to read for enjoyment. We hope you find them useful. 1.
Be seen reading about Euro 2016 and the Somme centenary yourself by your children – you are their best and most important role models. Have newspapers in the TV room or at breakfast or even deliver a newspaper to their room in the morning. Point out stories to do with their favourite team, match reports, player profiles and the centenary commemoration. 2. Play Euro 2016 Book Bingo with them during one of the football matches. You can download the game fromwww.wordsforlife.org.uk. 3. Read Tom Palmer’s free online story, Over the Line 2016, based in France and responding to the tournament and Somme commemorations as they unfold. Download it daily from 13 June at www.literacytrust.org.uk/euro-2016/story. We hope these tips are useful. You can find more about family reading from the National Literacy Trust’s parent-facing website www.wordsforlife.org.uk. Happy Reading! ***********************************************************************************************
