[email protected] You will receive your Parents’ Evening appointment request letter along with this week’s Sutherland Sentinel. If you wish for an appointment, please ensure that your request slip is returned to us as soon as possible and certainly by the deadline of Friday 5th February.
Buildings Update We held a further meeting with the Department for Education, Stoke-on-Trent City Council and two specialist surveyors on Monday. The Beaconsfield Drive site survey will now be completed over the next few weeks to determine where the temporary academy building will be located as well as where the permanent new build will be. This information will then inform the planning application for both buildings. We remain on course for a move back to Blurton on Monday 23rd May with the children returning following the May half term. We will keep you informed of further progress and information as we get it.
Verbal Abuse of Staff Policy All Sutherland staff do their utmost to help all parents, carers and visitors with any queries they may have. They deserve to be able to carry out this work without fear of abuse or threats. On the very rare occasions when staff are subject to this, including threatening or abusive language or intimidation, either face-to-face or over the telephone, we ask the staff member to complete a detailed log recording 1. who the abuser was 2. the nature of the abuse 3. the date, time and circumstances of the incident. Where circumstances dictate, we will resort to legal action to deal with issues.
Parking at Beaconsfield Drive We have again received reports that, whilst waiting for buses, parents are parking in the school entrance, on the double yellow lines and on the zig zag lines. Several vehicles have been asked to move on by the Crossing Patrol Manager but on some occasions, drivers have refused to move. The Crossing Patrol Manager has and will pass on registration numbers to the police. Even if families use the ‘ lollipop staff’ to cross, emerging from between parked vehicles is very unsafe for both the warden and the pedestrians. As a result of these ongoing problems, it is very likely that the CCTV camera car will visit Beaconsfield Drive. The area outside the school is protected by zig zags, double yellow lines and kerb markings which mean no loading/unloading in any of the marked areas. Please remember that these measures are put in place for the Health and Safety of you and your children.
Coach Transport Overall, we are delighted that our coach transport is working as well as it possibly can considering the volume of children being transported every day (around 400) and the distance of the journey. May we thank you as parents and carers for helping with this process. We have worked extremely hard to ensure that teaching time is not impacted upon. The biggest thing over which we have absolutely no control is the traffic. Whereas the journey takes just 20 minutes in good traffic conditions, if there is an accident on the M6, A500 or A34, road works or the weather is very poor, then this has a significant impact upon journey time. We recognise that this inconveniences parents and carers but it really is something that we can do absolutely nothing about – we wish that we could! Please note that the Coach Marshalls, of whom there are usually two per coach, are there to help ensure a smooth journey with no problems along the way. It is essential that all children do as asked by the Marshalls. Those children that do not do as they are asked, will be given a warning and if they cause a future problem we will write formally to you to let you know. Parents and carers who collect their children from the Penkhull site at the end of the school day should please remember that, as was the case when all children were at our Beaconsfield Drive base, we teach right up until 3.15pm, at which point children are dismissed from their classrooms to collect their belongings. This means that they will not usually be ready for collection at 3.15pm.
Breakfast Club Our Breakfast Club is very well attended and running very well. If you wish your child to attend please remember that they will need to catch one of the first two coaches or else bring them to the Penkhull site yourself between 8.15am, when it opens, and 8.30am.
This Week’s Winning School Team Congratulations to the Yellow Eagle team for winning this week. Children in this team may come to school on Monday wearing non-uniform with at least one highly visible item in their team colour.
