The 7th Annual Firecracker Invitational Baseball Tournament July 2nd – July 6th 2014
October 1, 2013 Dear League/Team Representative, We are pleased to offer you an invitation to the 7th Annual Firecracker Invitational Baseball Tournament. This year we will provide tournament play to 2 divisions, Juniors (17 & Under) and Seniors (19 & under). This American Legion th based tournament will be held over the 4 of July weekend with lots of exciting action with over 40 teams expected this year for the first time, last year we have 36 teams that participated. Each year our tournament popularity continues to grow! Unfortunately, we do sell out early. This past season we turned away 11 teams and that was starting a tournament in 2008 with 6 teams to 31 in 2011 and 2012, to 36 teams last year in 2013! We are hopeful for 42 overall teams with 7 pools of 6 teams each. We have received interested earlier than expected this year so we are opening up registrations now! We can’t emphasize enough to secure your spot early. Again, this will be a definite sellout! nd
Juniors (17 & under) and Seniors (19 & Under) will play Wednesday, July 2
through Sunday, July 6th.
Pool play format will be used with all teams guaranteed to play at least 4 games (weather permitting). Teams will be placed in pools, based solely on where they are from. We like to place teams from different areas against each other to allow the kids to play teams from different areas, cities and play against different players then they are normally used to. We also rotate teams around, year to year, from different facilities so they get to play on different college fields and high school fields every year. Participation is limited to 42 teams overall and we expect to fill up early. Registration for this tournament is only $675.00, including a box of game baseballs. If you enter two or more teams from the same post/town, there is a discount of $25.00 per team. Please fill out the attached application form and send in with your payment to insure your team a spot in our tournament. Upon receipt of your application, an email will be sent confirming your entry and that your spot is secured. Your spot is NOT fully secured until payment is received. All Umpires are High School board certified. All games will have 2 umpires during pool play, playoffs but then for our 2 Championship games, we always have 3 umpires on the field. Preliminary round games will take place at area high school and collegiate fields with the playoffs and championship games at college facilities, last year’s championship games took place at Division 1 NCAA Tournament’s Bryant University brand new baseball facility. This year we have added the University of Rhode Island’s first class artificial turf field for pool play and playoffs, along with Brown University, Dean College along with Bishop Feehan High School, Seekonk and Lincoln High School. We have a new website (www.shamrockbaseball.org) that has all our information on there from prior year’s tournaments, rules and regulations, hotel and tournament personnel contact information. This year in addition to adding another college facility, we are adding Game changer to our sites for stat keeping and all stats and scores will hopefully be streamed lived on our webpage. Also, per your survey results, we have revised some rules and regulations for the tournament, which are available upon request. First and second place teams receive team trophies, along with our Annual Firecracker Baseball Tournament MVP award for outstanding player in each division for the holiday weekend. We also contact all the local colleges and professional scouts in this area to let them know about the tournament, team rosters and schedules to get your student athletes more exposure for the weekend, last year we had over 23 representatives from college and professional programs, including Wheaton College, Boston College, Bryant University, Roger Williams University, Johnson and Wales University, University of Rhode Island, Stonehill College, the College of the Holy Cross, CCRI, Skidmore College along with scouts from the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners.
