Large “feathered” star: Cut two 91/4" squares. Cut each square in half twice on the diagonal. Label “A”. B. Pattern #14308 BEI1(beige plaid): 1. Cut two 107/8" x 42" strips. Crosscut a total of four 107/8" squares. Cut each square in half once on the diagonal. Label “I”. 2. Trim the remainder of one of the 107/8" strips to measure 91/4" wide. Crosscut two 91/4" squares. Cut each square in half twice on the diagonal. Label “B”. 3. Cut two 21/2" x 42" strips. Make two 81/2" and two 10 1/2" crosscuts from each strip. 1. Construct 36 star point units from the seventy-two 21/2" squares of the green holly print and the thirtysix 21/2" x 41/2" rectangles of the beige texture. a. Draw a diagonal line on the reverse side of each 21/2" square. Position a square on one end of a 21/2" x 41/2" rectangle, right sides together. Stitch on the diagonal line (Figure 1). Position a beige square, right sides together, on one corner of a red 41/2" square with the drawn line positioned as shown in Figure 3. Stitch on the line. Trim 1/4" away from the stitching. 2. “Feathers”: a. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each of the sixteen 27/8" beige texture squares for the “feathers”. b. Pair each of the sixteen 27/8" beige texture squares, right sides together, with the sixteen 27/8" dark green texture squares. Stitch 1/4" away from each side of the drawn line (Figure 7). ASSEMBLY: 1. Referring to Figure 11 (back cover), arrange pieces “F” - “O” on a design wall with the large “feathered” star in the center. 2. Sew pieces together in sections. Press. 3. Join sections, pressing so that seams are opposing. 4. Sew outer border strips to the quilt, side borders first, then the top and bottom borders. Press toward the outer border strips.
FINISHING: 1. Layer quilt top, batting and backing. 2. Baste layers together. 3. Quilt as desired. 4. Join binding strips with a diagonal seam. Apply binding to quilt using your favorite method. 5. Make a hanging sleeve and a label and attach to the back of the quilt.
