THE KEYNOTE
FALL 2014, Issue 1 KAPPA IS…
Wearing your letters on your front, and having your girls at your back. ~Veronica Purcell Not about what happens, but no matter what happens. ~ Sarah Vetsmany
…A word from our president… The white house on the hill has been a host of great successes and support activities that we are so proud of. We are so proud of our seniors; Sarah Jacobsen and Sarah Vetsmany, for their roles are Panhellenic President and ASUI Vice President. It is so inspiring to see our fellow sisters pursuing their goals. Last spring we were awarded the Greek Awards of “Highest Chapter GPA”, “Outstanding Membership Education Program” and “Panhellenic Sorority of Excellence”. We are so honored as a chapter to be recognized by the University and supported by our Greek community. Last spring we started a new tradition of “Junior Hoopla” where the Key Sisses are honored by the chapter for their continued dedication to our chapter.
This was a bonding experience for all and we are excited that it will bring joy to our future sisters. Senior Week 2014 as sentimental, we were all in tears while we supported our seniors as they made their final walk as active members across the tables into their next chapter of membership as alumna. This summer we were fortunate to send a handful of our leaders to the 2014 General Convention in Houston in June. While there, Beta Kappa was awarded “Most Improved Academic Excellence” and we are honored for the national recognition for our dedication to academics. Convention truly proved to us that being a Kappa lasts far beyond our college years. Overall we are proud of our chapter with the loyalty and spunk of its members making it a place we will never forget.
The uniqueness of our members is what makes our chapter so special and our bonds so deep. We are so delighted to share this magic with the outstanding New Member class of 2014. Beta Kappa will always hold a special place in my heart and I am honored to share something so powerful with each and every one of you. Loyally, Michael Anne Kopp Chapter President Beta Kappa Chapter

A word from our Recruitment chair… Recruitment 2014 and workweek went very well; 28 new members pledged this fall to join our beautiful home. We did many different sisterhoods and bonding activities
every morning during workweek to prepare for a crazy, stressful week of talking to strangers. We also had the honor of hosting our wonderful recruitment advisor, Erin Galinato. She was an amazing asset to have around, and was willing to share her fun stories from
Additionally, we were very lucky to have the help of alumni Michelle Meyers, Bobbie Peet, and Angela Disalvo. I would like to send out a big “Thank you!” to all of the wonderful alumni who sent us Recommendation Letters; it was a great help during the recruitment process and supported us in furthering our knowledge of the potential new members! If you have any questions about this year’s recruitment, you can contact Kelsey Seibold at 208-8679022.

Philanthropy Beta Kappa started the New Year off strong with the sending of over three hundred “puppy accessories” to Skyway Elementary in Coeur d’Alene, ID. It is all part of a program called The Puppy Project, where students are given a stuffed animal puppy and encouraged to read. The “puppy accessories” made by current Beta Kappa’s are awarded as prizes to students who achieve their reading goals. Jumping right into Valentine’s Day, Beta Kappa completed our second annual KKG Flower Grams philanthropy. Carnation sales doubled from the first year as 576 carnations were delivered to Sorority and Fraternity houses on campus. The $1,020 raised was donated to Melodie, our current cook’s four-‐ year-‐old daughter who needed to receive a liver transplant.
We are happy to report that at this time Melodie is fully recovered and we enjoy seeing her bubbly face around the house from time to time. The spring semester wrapped up with another successful Key For The Kure fun run. Over 150 people attended and nearly $2,000 was donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Looking forward to the fall semester Beta Kappa has plans to donate and personally deliver books to local elementary schools in need. Members are very excited to get more involved with Kappa’s national philanthropy, Reading is Fundamental, in this upcoming project. We’re looking forward to another philanthropic year at Beta Kappa and continuing to be involved in bettering the Idaho community. L & L, Katelin Bartles Philanthropy Chair

As you can see the Beta Kappa Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma had a fantastic ending to Spring 2014, and a bright future ahead of us in the new school year! We are excited to implement The Key Note to be sent out once a semester to keep all of our wonderful alumni informed on what we are doing. Although time has passed Beta Kappa has remained much the same, from the same furniture, to the same unbreakable sisterhood that resides in the White House on the Hill, and we are excited to continue to share it with you.
