Property ‘Little Garth’ is a unique semi-detached family home, full of charm and character with great outside space for entertaining. The property has been much improved by the current owners, offering spacious and well-proportioned rooms. On the ground floor, there is an entrance hall, shower room, lounge with feature fireplace and doors to the garden, dining area, cosy family room, newly fitted kitchen/breakfast room with integrated appliances plus a utility room. There is also a double bedroom with en-suite shower room on this floor, ideal for use as annex accommodation, a guest suite or space for an elderly relative or teenager. On the first floor, there are two further bedrooms, a family bathroom and a study. Externally, there are delightful established gardens laid to lawn with shrubs, brick built barbecue, decking area and a driveway providing off street parking for numerous vehicles to the front. Chestfield is a thriving community, having an 18-hole golf course, a cricket club and a popular public house/restaurant. Chestfield railway station is nearby providing a regular service to London and the Kent Coast, and Swalecliffe is close by providing local shops and a Sainsbury’s supermarket. Whitstable town centre is within two miles where you will find a wide variety of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants as well as the popular beach and working harbour.
Our Time Here We first fell in love with this very different, quirky property around 18 years ago, and saw a lot of potential. The house you see today has been lovingly renovated over a number of years, and the layout has changed quite considerably during that time. We love the open-plan living space that we have created, and it’s a great place for spending time with the family or entertaining friends. As grandparents, we have ensured that the house is very family-orientated and our grandchildren love visiting us here, especially to make the most of the garden, which over the years has been made into a very pretty and private space. We have extended the decking area out and this has been wonderful for summer barbecues, parties and just relaxing with a glass of wine in the evenings. Being a South-facing garden it benefits from having the sun from sunrise to sunset. We love the location here; it is so quiet and peaceful with a quaint village like feel. The Leas is quite an exclusive little area and together with Green Leas the houses here have two “village greens”, and the grandchildren have enjoyed the odd game of football and cricket on them. It’s very leafy and green and, being on a private road with no through traffic, it is a safe place to live. Swalecliffe and Chestfield station is just a short walk away with trains to London taking around 1hr 20mins and the high-speed train making the journey just over an hour. A 5 minute walk takes you to Chestfield Barn pub/restaurant, a quaint converted 14th Century barn. Whitstable is close by while Canterbury is a lovely 5-6 mile drive through the woods. It’s great to be located in the countryside, to be near to the town and city and yet also only a 15-20 minute walk from the seafront. The location really has it all. We have been very happy here and have many wonderful memories. We will miss absolutely everything about this quirky house and its beautiful garden, but we know that it is time for us to move on as we move closer to retirement and the next chapter.
