The days are getting longer, the temperatures are rising, people are out and about, and the great celebration for Christians of Resurrection Sunday will soon be here. Unfortunately, a declarative day, which truly should only be of importance to a Christian, gets tainted by the world and retailers are gearing up to cash in on what is a uniquely Christian holiday with bunnies, chicks, eggs, and chocolate. What a glorious, hallelujah day that Resurrection Day will be… but what will we do after the service is over and after everyone has gone home from the big family gathering? The resurrection of our Savior is not just a one day event; it changes everything! The resurrection of Jesus Christ better change every breath you take. The resurrection of Christ exposes every other religion in this world as futile and vain in its instruction and incorporation in life to achieve eternal existence. To the first believers on and in Christ, their faith in who Christ is, was not a blind, well let’s see if this works out, shot in the dark. Death is the penalty for sin that we commit. Only God could make a way to defeat death and He did it through His Son, Jesus Christ, and gave proof so that all would know through Christ alone is how we attain salvation. “To these He also presented Himself alive, after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days, and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.” (Acts 1:3).

. . . Continued from previous page . . . These Christ followers, not just the select twelve, with eye witness accounts, they knew beyond all doubt that Jesus Christ in bodily form had risen from the grave. They knew He had died and days later they had seen Him, touched Him, walked with Him, talked with Him, and eaten food with Him in private and public. How certain are these proofs? The Greek word here in Acts 1:3 for “proof” is only used once in the entire New Testament Scripture and its meaning is translated “A sure sign; many criteria of certainty.” I see it as a tremendous statement that God’s Word applies this wording to the resurrection of Christ alone. There are many works that have been published by defending this truth of history and giving evidences that we don’t have the room to go into at this time. The testimony given by those original eye witnesses testifying to the resurrection have never been refuted. Peter could boldly speak: “For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.” (II Peter 1:16). The Apostle John proclaimed: “And the life was manifested, and we have seen and bear witness and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us.” (I John 1:2). John got an extra bonus in his life for he walked with Jesus in bodily form, He witnessed the resurrected body of Jesus, and then he was able to see a glimpse of Heaven and the glorified Christ to come as He spoke to him: “… I am the first and the last, and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore…” (Rev. 1:17b-18a). Here we are almost 2,000 years later, and just the same as those first Christians, our faith is built on sure and certain proofs, that were also testified to by eyewitnesses, of the truth of Christ and the Resurrection. Whether you feel you are well versed in apologetics, giving a reasoned defense for what you believe, or not, may your trust in the Resurrection always be sure and certain. In His service, Doug

WORK DAY COMING UP! We are needing men and women of the church to come and help with some odd jobs around the church building and grounds on Saturday, April 12th beginning at 8:00am. Any time that you would be able to give and help out, it would be greatly appreciated.
Jon caught the media limelight in 2007 for his unconventional ways of reaching out to hurting people. This is the guy who unabashedly stood at a busy street corner in Lexington holding up a “Free Hugs” sign. This is the pastor who urged his congregation to write notes of encouragement to troubled Britney Spears. The same pastor who cancelled the Christmas services so that his church members could bring Christmas to the world outside their church. This is the minister who rallied his congregation to send gifts to the families of those killed in the crash of Comair Flight 5191. (And this is the guy who thinks that throwing firecrackers at unsuspecting staff is fun.) Still, in the eyes of the people he serves, Jon is solid as a rock. Jon is a graduate of Ozark Christian College. We will take the church van if we have enough men wanting to go, or car pool. Dinner starts at 6:00pm and program to follow at 7:00pm.
