2017
As summer winds down with Labor Day and a new school year approaching, don’t let the rest of summer pass you by. On hot August weekends, stop by on your way to the cabin and cool off in our air conditioned space. Come in to enjoy an iced coffee or some frosted fabric. Or just stop by to visit us. We would love to hear what projects you are currently working on! We sure hope to see you before summer ends. In the meantime, have fun and get to quilting! Update on construction at the shop… Our entrance on the outside of the store is complete. We have new entrance steps with a handicap accessible ramp. Once inside the front door, we now have an entrance to our new main level classroom! Work is ongoing and we hope to have it completed by late September. Our first class in this new space will be offered shortly after it is completed. Any requests for a specific class?? Different border/binding techniques, beginning quilting classes, fall project? Let us know what kinds of classes you would like to see offered as we would like to keep this space busy. Classes not only educate on a specific project or technique, but often quilters working in a group bounce ideas off each other and come up with ideas that really benefit the project being worked on. We also plan to offer sit and sew days and opportunities to work on community projects such as quilts of valor. We really would like some feedback to let us know what works best for you. Evenings?? Weekends?? Check the website often as we are in the process of scheduling classes and events to be added. http://www.oldcreameryquiltshop.com/classes.htm Knitters – Block of the Month This fall we will be offering a Block of the Month Knit Along. We will be using the book “The Great American Aran Afghan”. A talented knitting instructor, Mary Bramscher, will be on hand for every session. It will be held the 2nd Monday of every month from 6-8 pm starting September 11. This will be a great way to learn or improve your knitting skills in a relaxed setting. Materials required will be the above mentioned book ($12.50), knitting needles, and yarn purchased from the Old Creamery. And it gets better… there will be no class fees for these sessions!
“Meet our long arm machine.” It is have a state-of-the-art computerized Gammill Statler Stitcher longarm quilting machine. Our machine is 12 feet long and can accommodate up to a 120” quilt. It does not have a name, but as a prized member of our team, it certainly needs one. Therefore, we are holding a contest to give it a name! Email your suggestion and why it should be named that. The person who suggests the chosen name will receive a layer cake of your choosing. We have also hired another person to help us longarm our customer’s quilts. As a result, the wait time to get your quilt professionally quilted has gone from 8 weeks down to 3 weeks. We will take your quilt top and give it the finishing touch it deserves. You should be confident that your quilt is in good hands. We currently have over 4000 patterns that are quilted with high accuracy. If you have been waiting to get your top quilted, now is the perfect time to bring it in before the Christmas rush begins. As an added incentive, any quilt top brought in during the month of September will receive a Mini Charm Pack to help you get started on your next quilt! The Woolen Mill This month our equipment will be installed and we are planning on being up and running after Labor Day. Our mill will be a part of the Weaving Water Fiber Arts Trail on September 22-23. A fiber arts trail is a new type of year-round cultural and art studio tour. Each fiber arts trail has its own personality shaped by the people and the places where they live. When you visit a Trail, you’ll see an exclusive community of high caliber fiber artists and makers, studios, yarn and quilt shops, historic places, scenic drives, art centers, galleries, museums, farms, ranches and in some places—woolen mills. Once a year, trail members host an Open House Weekend when they throw open the doors, offer workshops, exhibits, make and take activities, lectures and studio tours. It’s an exciting weekend for everyone…stop by for an opportunity to participate in many activities including a tour of our new facility! Fiber Arts at the Old Creamery Quilt Shop Rag rugs, dish towels, table runners, felted booties and more!
