ALPHA OMICRON PI SPRING NEWSLETTER

The Panda Post

Editor: Sydney Smith Co-Editor: Paige Reid

Strike Out Arthritis This year, the Alpha Pi chapter hosted our 3rd annual Strike Out Arthritis spring philanthropy! This year’s tournament was softball instead of whiffle ball! We had such an amazing turn out, and were able to host an event that exceeded all of our expectations with the help of our philanthropy chairman, Alexa Ramirez, along with the rest of the women in the our chapter. The event was held on February 20th, 2016 at Florida State’s Intramural fields. There was a men’s league/women’s league, and we were proud to announce the winners for the two tournaments to be Pi Kappa Phi and Kappa Delta! Most importantly, it is always something special to be able to come together as a unit to raise awareness and money for something that is so prevalent to our chapter’s lives, let alone the rest of the world. This year our chapter was able to raise $3,500 towards Arthritis Research, and is keeping continuous fundraising through out the rest of the year.

Line Dance 2016 This was the 2nd year AOII has participated in the Line Dance competition, which is a philanthropy event hosted by five fraternities all raising money towards Florida State’s own College of Business, along with outside organizations through out the FSU community. We were blown away by the Egyptian performance from our talented sisters, and we could not be more proud! A special thank you to not only the women who performed in the routine but also to the rest of the women in AOII for supporting our team through continuous shirt sales, ticket sales, and share it nights. We were able to come together as a united whole to represent AOII, and support our sisters while raising money for our own college community along side members of IFC and NPC!

Dance Marathon

Participating in Dance Marathon 2016 is an event that this chapter will never forget! We had over 70 women participating as dancers, and sisters with special positions such as Morale Captain, External Events Captain, Sponsorship Chair, Assistants, and much more. We are proud to say that with our pairings for Team Lauren, we successfully raised over $40,000 for the kids. Our fundraising helped contribute to the $1.4 million that Florida State was able to raise as a whole and this was the most FSU has raised yet! This event was something that so many women in our chapter dedicated their heart and soul into, and it showed when we were announced as the 2nd place team overall at the event! All of this could not have been possible without the hard work and extensive hours put in by our Dance Marathon representatives, Casey Lowe and Shannon Wakeford. Their motivation and dedication is what pushed us as a chapter to exceed the expectations!

Relay For Life This year for Relay for Life, we were able to raise over $12,000 for the American Cancer Society! AOII was involved all around the board whether it was being a participant for the event, celebration leader, or even on relay leadership. The success of our team would not have been possible without our team representatives, Andrea Ponte and Sarah Raynor. Relay for Life is something that can hit home for many of our sisters, and being able to help raise money towards a cure for cancer is a humbling opportunity. At the event, we were able to sell drinks and Jimmy Johns to raise even more money towards our donation goal, which also contributed to the outstanding $306,582.61 raised by the FSU community. The road to $300k was successfully achieved, and we cannot wait until next year to continue our fight to find a cure.

“Being the team rep has been such a privilege! I was able to share my love of Relay with my sisters and having their support meant the world to me!” - Sarah

Graduating Seniors

As spring semester comes to an end, it is time to say goodbye to our amazing senior class! This chapter would not have been able to develop and grow without the guidance, strength, and determination to succeed that these women have brought to the table. With many founding sisters in this graduating class, we wanted to thank you all for the time and effort that you have put into this chapter. Whether it was serving on LCC, participating in philanthropies, fundraising, or even showing us an inseparable bond, we will always look up to the amazing legacy you women have left for this chapter. Although AOII is for more than four years, we hope that your transition ceremonies were everything that you could have asked for, and that you keep in touch as much as possible with this chapter. Seniors, we know that you all have bright futures ahead of you, and that you forever and always continue to exceed the expectation wherever you may go. Congratulations!
