Volume 8, Issue 1 January - April, 2013
Dear Friends,
January 2013
At the beginning of the fall newsletter, I listed those things that I was going to accomplish this fall. I had five tasks listed. Ask me how many I have accomplished. I’m not telling. So here goes my New Year’s resolution: Finish the rest of the list or start something new. I know which thing I want to do first. Guess which one I picked. Following is my new list. Volunteer for Quilts of Valor: We have reserved the Furnace Run Pavilion on 4955 Townsend for February 1 to finish the Quilts of Valor quilts. Quilts sewn for this program will be donated to veterans of any war. If you can spare any time on that day, whether it is an hour or all day, we will have the equipment for you to use and goodies to keep you energized while you sew, iron, or cut. We will be there from 10am to 8pm. Go to www.QOVF.org for more information about the program. We will also be sending out an email later in the month. A Block of the Month: We are offering two new ones. A Year To Crow About starts in March and features fabrics from Red Rooster and Jacqueline Patton. You can customize this project to fit your needs whether you want a quilt or individual wall hangings. Blessings of Spring was designed by Shabby Fabrics and shows off the new stunning fabrics from Robin Pandolph. This project begins in April. See inside for more information Everything else on my previous list Speaking about starting something new, we want to start a new group and we are looking for your input. So many quilts today use more graphically designed fabrics created by ingenious women such as Denyse Schmidt, Tula Pink, Brigitte Heitland, Kate Spain, Malka Dubrawsky and Lotta Jansdotter. Through the use of simple shapes and clear colors, today’s projects have a new, fresh look. We need your ideas for a group that will meet once a month to trade ideas, learn new techniques, sew together and create. Email us with your ideas, your preferred meeting times or any suggestions on how to make this a viable, active group. We would love to have you join us. Hope you had a wonderful holiday season and have an equally wonderful new year. See you soon, Ronnie, Debbie, Debbie, Pam, Pam, Cathy, Kathleen and Sallie

Block of the Month Programs A Year To Crow About, a twelve month block of the month program, is a whimsical quilt (69” X 86”) from the team of Red Rooster Fabrics and Jacqueline Patton. This pieced quilt offers a small printed block portraying a mischievous crow causing trouble each month of the year. The themed fabrics have Jacqueline’s signature “stenciled” look and soft muted colors. You can choose blue, green or barn red for the outer scalloped border and accents. If you can’t use another quilt, choose another option which will be a calendar format with each finished block mounted on a pieced background to hang individually from a wrought iron 26” hanger. A $15 registration fee will hold a spot for you and will be refunded on when you pick up your last block in the last month. Cost: $23 a month for twelve months Help sessions: Tuesday Sessions: March 12 and April 16; 10:30am Thursday Sessions: March 14 and April 18; 6:30pm Blessings of Spring, a ten month block of month program, features a new line of fabric from RJR fabrics and Robin Pandolph called “Incense and Peppermint.” The Shabby Fabrics pattern features all the motifs of springtime: ladybugs, tulips, umbrellas, flowers and, of course, hearts. An embellishment pack is included in the kit. A $15 registration fee will hold a spot for you and will be refunded on when you pick up your last block in the last month.
