FLASH POINTS • • • • • •
In January, the Red Flash went on a three-game road winning streak for the first time since 1980-81. SFU had back-to-back wins in November by 20-plus points for the first time since 2006-07. The Flash earned a season sweep of Bryant for the first time. In both games, SFU trailed by double digits. SFU earned its first season sweep of Robert Morris since the 2000-01 season. SFU’s win at Robert Morris, shown live on ESPNU, was the team’s first win at Robert Morris since 2007-08 Head coach Rob Krimmel moved into ninth place on the school’s wins list. He currently has 44 victories.
AROUND THE PROGRAM RONNIE DRINNON EARNS ACCOLADES
Senior forward Ronnie Drinnon earned several postseason honors for his outstanding final year in a Red Flash uniform. Drinnon was named All-NEC First Team, an ECAC Second Team All-Star, and an NABC All-District selection. Drinnon finished the season as the leading rebounder in the Northeast Conference, pulling in 11 rebounds per game. He also became the first SFU player in 18 years to average a double-double for the season.
BROWN NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT Senior guard Greg Brown became the first Red Flash men’s basketball player to be named CoSIDA Academic All-District in six years with his selection this spring. To be considered, a student-athlete must
maintain a 3.3 GPA and be a signficant contributor to the team. As a management information systems and marketing double major, Brown carried a 3.53 GPA into the spring semester while finishing second on the team in scoring with 12.8 points per game. Brown was also honored as the NEC Men’s Basketball Scholar Athlete.
FLASH SENIORS GRADUATE
After being one of the most successful senior classes in SFU’s recent memory, Greg Brown, Ben Millaud-Meunier and Ronnie Drinnon graduated from Saint Francis in May with bachelor’s degrees.
A MESSAGE FROM COACH Greetings from Loretto! I hope this note finds everyone in good health and looking forward to a great summer. Things are relatively quiet on campus right now. Most of the guys have gone home for a few weeks before we begin summer workouts at the end of June. I am very excited about our returning group as well as the young men that will be joining our program for the first time in a few weeks. As we continue to strive for excellence in all that we do, our guys enjoyed a productive 2015-16. After making a push to the top of the standings, we were hit with a few untimely injuries that left us short of our goal of winning a Northeast Conference Championship. In spite of the setbacks, our guys led by our seniors Greg Brown, Ronnie Drinnon, and Ben Millaud-Meunier, fought hard down the stretch and came within 2 points of knocking off eventual champ FDU in the first round of the NEC playoffs. In the classroom, our guys achieved a 3.066 GPA and had a perfect 4.0 GPA by Scott Meredith. We were a finalist for the SFU community service award and received the NEC Sportsmanship award for Men’s Basketball. Our primary goal as a program is to develop well rounded young men that are prepared for the next phase of their lives. Greg, Ronnie, and Ben have represented SFU in a first class manner during their time in Loretto. We will miss each one of them, but know that they will go on to do great things that will make all of our alumni proud! Please do not hesitate to reach out if we can ever be of assistance to you. We are working diligently to continue to create and maintain strong bonds with our alumni. Best wishes for a healthy and productive summer! Go Red Flash!
NEC SPORTSMANSHIP WINNERS The Saint Francis men’s basketball team was named the Northeast Conference Sportsmanship Award winner for its sport, announced by the conference. Instituted by league Presidents in 2008, the awards are designed to acknowledge the team in each conference sport that, in the opinion of its peers, most closely demonstrates good sportsmanship based on the NEC Principles of Sportsmanship and Standards of Conduct. Voting is conducted at the conclusion of each season by each team and head coach, who rank teams within the conference based on a set of criteria. Since the NEC Team Sportsmanship program was instituted in 2008-09, Saint Francis has won a conference-best 32 awards. The Red Flash led the NEC in team sportsmanship honors each year from 2008-13.
