Science Week We have had a super science week with lots going on in different year groups. We started off with an assembly where we learned about famous scientists past and present. The children were really knowledgeable about the work of scientists such as Newton, Pasteur and of course Professor Stephen Hawking! As well as having a science focus in lessons, our Year 3,4 and 5 children had a talk from a research scientist who told them all about working in the world of science. Our Year 6 children visited the museum to see an exhibition on evolution. This morning we learned about the Partial Eclipse in our special assembly and this afternoon, our younger children met up with their fellow students from Prince Rock down at Tothill Park. Foundation went bug hunting, Year 1 were plant detectives and Year 2 had fun building bug hotels. Thanks to Mr Brooks, our Science Co-ordinator, for organising these activities.

PTFA News Important message about the discos Please note, all children from Foundation to Year 4 must be collected from the discos. Year 5 and 6 will be given a permission slip should you wish them to walk home. If we do not receive permission for the older children to walk home, we will assume that they are being collected and they will not be allowed to leave unaccompanied. Could we request that children are collected promptly from the discos. Thank you :)

Maths At parent’s evening many parents raised the question of maths. There have been many changes in this subject recently and it is not surprising that many of you feel you are in need of guidance on how to support your children. We are now in a position to be able to put you in the picture. After Easter, our Maths Team will be putting on parent workshops where we will outline the changes that have taken place in maths methodology. We will also give you some practical ideas for helping your children. We have not yet set the dates for this but please look out for a separate letter with more info in April.

Film Certificates We are aware, at school, that some of our children watch films that are not appropriate for their age. As a school, we are quite concerned about this, especially when children play out things they may have seen or scare other children with tales of horror films that they have seen. We just wanted to bring it to your attention as the things that children are allowed to watch at home can and do have a negative impact on school life. We would urge parents to please monitor closely what our children are allowed to watch.
Possibilities– our school community On Tuesday, our Year 3,4 and 5 children had a talk from Dr Helen Parry who is one of our new parent governors. Dr Parry is a research scientist and came to visit the children as part of our Science Week activities. With the introduction of our new school curriculum, we are trying to show the children their ‘possibilities’. This involves making their learning experiences explicitly relevant to their futures. We want to inspire our children to think big… but we need to show them some real life examples! With this in mind, and knowing that many of our parents have amazing skills, we were wondering if any of our other parents would be interested in coming in to school to talk to the children, this could be in assembly time, or to individual classes or year groups depending on their topic. If you would be interested in getting involved in this way, Mrs Evans and Dr Parry would love to hear from you. Go on, be brave!
