A TONBRIDGE businessman used his own CCTV cameras to catch a thieving double-glazing fitter red-handed. Mark Hicks, of Streamside, hired Steven Roberts, 35, to carry out double glazing work in September. But after completing the work on behalf of Strood firm Supaglazing, Roberts loaded his branded van in broad daylight with £1,190 worth of the family’s possessions. Mr Hicks, 39, returned home that

afternoon to find a copper tank was missing from his garden. He told the Courier: “I thought ‘something’s not right here’. “I checked the CCTV and that’s when I found what had gone on.”

Unlocked The footage showed Roberts had waited for Mr Hicks’s wife Susie to leave the house, before going back in a few minutes later through a stable door he had left unlocked. The father of three of Frittenden Road, Wainscott, near Rochester, then carried the large tank across

the driveway and hauled it into his van, before returning twice more to grab other items. “I’m absolutely disgusted by what’s gone on,” Mr Hicks said. “My daughters, aged 10 and 13, are absolutely petrified. They feel very unsafe.” Roberts appeared at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to plead guilty to stealing a camera lens, a copper cylinder and binoculars on September 28. The court heard Roberts, who had worked for the company for
