INTRODUCTION You will learn how to open the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and replace the solid state drive. This guide only covers replacing the SSD. It does not cover loading the operating system back on the device.

TOOLS: Phillips #2 Screwdriver (1) Spudger (1)

Step 1 — Remove Bottom Cover 

Use phillips #2 screwdriver to loosen seven cover screws.



Use spudger to pop open bottom cover, remove and set aside.

Step 3 — Disconnect Battery

 Disconnect the battery connector from the main board by pulling the connector towards the battery.

Step 4 — Remove SSD Screw 

Use the # 2 phillips screwdriver and remove the screw holding the SSD in place.

Step 5 — Remove SSD 

Remove the SSD by sliding it out of the connector to the right.
