To: ISD 300 Board of Education and Superintendent Wilke From: Beth Theede, Director of Community Education April 2015 Report Early Childhood Work Our final Room to Run events was held in March, and despite the nice weather, we still had 75 participants! These Room to Run events have been a great way to engage our young families in the District, and we are using the information we gathered from these events this year to continue to improve for next year and develop more opportunities for parent and child learning. Discovery Preschool registration fall continues to increase, with more tours and inquiries coming in weekly. We were notified that Discovery Preschool has been awarded THREE positions for the 2015-16 school year! We currently have one part time Reading Corps tutor, and next year, we will have two full time tutors and one part time tutor. This program is embedded into our literacy curriculum delivery, and we gain valuable resources as a partner with the MN Reading Corps program. Performing Arts Series We are currently planning for next year’s PAS. We are looking to be mindful of coordinating these performances with opportunities for our students to interact and engage with these groups in a manner that connects to curriculum. We have submitted a grant with the Arts Midwest association in hopes of securing funding to assist in bringing Brule (“A Native American experience of sight, sound, and soul) this fall, which would include a student and public performance. Your feedback is welcome! Communications The communications audit and planning process continues is nearing completion. The Communication audit will arrive in our office this week, and Jeff Dehler and Associates are working to finalize the Communications Plan. If any of you wish to review the audit prior to when I present the information, please contact me. School Age Childcare Summer registration is underway, as is finalizing our summer staffing. The kids are more excited about summer every day—including trying to wear tanks tops and flip-flops almost daily! Enrichment The La Crescent-Hokah Area Youth Summer Adventure guide has been sent home via backpacks at the elementary and the non-publics, and is available for pick up at the MS/HS, both La Crescent and Hokah City Halls and libraries, and various businesses.
