La Crescent Middle School/BCLC Board Report To: La Crescent –Hokah School Board and Superintendent Wilke From: Steve Smith – MS School Principal – Bluff Country Principal Date: May 2015 Middle School: ∙ We are nearing completion of the MCA state tests at the middle school and throughout the district. As data becomes available sites will be analyzing those results to help with placement decisions, curriculum updates and strategy adjustments. ∙ As we move into May we have several grade levels that will be taking students on field trips to take advantage of the ability to be outside as well as utilize the environmental resources for education. th Our 6 grade will be headed to their annual Lanesboro trip, which is an overnight opportunity and complements the team building that has been ongoing in Advisory all year. This also has numerous educational events related to the environment. ∙ As part of the healthy choices/lifestyle connection we will be running/walking our middle school 5k event on the last day of school. Students are working on improving their pace in physical education classes right now. Students will have a chance to purchase a tshirt recognizing this event. We will also be partnering with WSU education students on this last day to offer fun opportunities after the race/walk. ∙ Our band programs will be putting on their spring concerts the th week of May 11 . The spring choir concert was last week. The amount of improvement these students show over the course of the year is a credit to their hard work and the direction of their teachers.
BCLC: ∙ Students are continuing to complete coursework and finish up credits as we transition to the end of the year. Some students have made visits to the ALC at Houston and we are in the planning stages of organizing a site visit for others.
