Tom bstone and Seraph. In September, my brother Jonathan and I climbed a 350-foot spire known by the locals as “The T om bstone.” This wide spire can be seen, looking south off H ighw ay 70, about 15 miles east of G reen River. A fter a 30-m inute drive on dirt roads, we were standing below the narrow north face, adm iring an unbroken hand-crack up a steep corner. A fter bouldering out the first overhanging moves, Jonathan began jam m ing and belayed me m idway up the crack. I grunted up the second pitch as the crack widened (F 1 0 ). The final pitch (F 6 ) led us to the Tom bstone’s virgin summit. NCCS III, F 1 0 + . U nreported from several years ago was the ascent of an unclimbed pinnacle just south of M oab on H ighw ay 163.
