Quilt Top Assembly Note: The arrangement of blocks and cornerstones is random, but each block is bordered by four sashing strips of the same color creating a “frame.” 1. Lay out the blocks and vertical sashing strips in ten rows of nine blocks each. Each block should have the same color sashing strip on its right and left sides. Follow the Quilt Assembly Diagram as a guide. 2. Sew the horizontal rows of blocks and sashing strips together and press seams in one direction. (figure 1) 3. Lay out the horizontal sashing strips between the block rows, noting that the sashing strip adjacent to the block should match the sashing strips on each side of the same block. (figure 2) 4. Sew the sashing strip long edges together in pairs. Press. Sew the sashing pairs together in horizontal rows with a cornerstone between each pair. Press the sashing row seams in the opposite
direction to the seams of the adjacent block rows. (figure 3) 5. Sew the sashing strips between horizontal block rows, aligning seams. Keep the sashing colors aligned with the block sides to form the frames. Finishing 6. Layer the quilt top, batting and backing and quilt as desired. 7. Stitch the binding strips together end to end using diagonal seams. Fold and press the resulting long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together. Stitch to the quilt front, matching raw edges and mitering the corners. 8. Fold the binding to the quilt underside and hand-stitch the folded edge to the quilt back.
