Top Tips for Star Reviewers Follow our top tips to have some fun and write some great reviews! Depending on the age and reading ability of your group, you could read the whole story, or read part of it, together in the session and then send the kids home to finish the book. Try to read at least the first chapter as a group and then discuss your first impressions of the story. Ask the children: who’s your favourite character so far? What do you think will happen next? Create a fun activity around the books: make a display in your library based on the themes of the book, or draw a favourite scene, or why not film a book review as a group? For more ideas, check out the blog posts the Caterham Chatterbooks group posted when they reviewed two unpublished books for Star Reviewers: Diamonds & Daggers and The 13-Storey Treehouse. Discuss what the children plan to write before they write it – this makes it more interactive and encourages the kids to develop their ideas Encourage the children to expand their answers using ‘because…’ In the ‘If you like this book, you’ll like…’ section, get the children to name specific books and authors they have enjoyed in previous Chatterbooks sessions
