Ms. Cayla and Ms. Cahn Curriculum Corner: This year we will be participating in a Cultural Studies rotation with the other lower elementary classes. Students will remain in their classroom with their teachers while the cultural studies rotate throughout the classrooms each week. This rotation will begin the week of September 12th. Our class will start with Botany. Upcoming subjects will include Science, Social Studies, Zoology, Geography, and History.
Homework:
Thank you for completing your first week of homework! Homework currently includes a weekly reading log and weekly practical life jobs. Please make sure you are encouraging your child to read at least 5 nights a week and also complete some tasks off their practical life calendar weekly. Soon homework will include other components like spelling, sight word practice, math fact practice, and monthly projects, so stay tuned for more details.
Spelling:
Spelling placement assessments are currently being completed and the first pretest will be given soon! Spelling work in class as well as for homework will begin on September 9th. Students will complete daily jobs in class in order to master a list of 10-20 words depending on their current level. Word lists will be sent home with suggestions for how to practice at home as well List 1 Pre Test: September 6th List 1 Post Test and List 2 Pre Test: September 9th List 2 Post Test and List 3 Pre Test: September 16th List 3 Post Test and List 4 Pre Test: September 23rd List 4 Post Test and List 5 Pre Test: September 30th
Field Trip Information: Our field trip to Apple Hill will be Saturday, September 24th at 9am at High Hill Ranch. The field trip will include apple cider tasting, an
educational tour/wagon ride, and walking tour. ** Please RSVP by September 16, 2016 ** Please include $5 cash donation per person (no checks please), including adults & all children (family members welcome). Be sure to put the cash in an envelope with your child’s name on the front.
Yearbook Pictures: Picture Day is coming at the end of the month. It is on Tuesday, September 27th, so please send kids to school looking their best. Dress code is required for pictures, as they will be placed in the school yearbook.
