In this scripture we find Jesus telling us that we are just like trees. A good tree will produce good fruit while a bad tree will produce bad fruit. The quality of the tree is evident by the fruit it produces. The fruit we produce is based on the things we treasure, the things we store up, and based on that abundance from that storehouse in our heart, our mouth will speak either good or evil. I shared the following in a class last month that demonstrates the bad and good fruit that will spill from our tongue based on the condition of our heart: A Person with a Harsh Tongue has an Angry Heart A Person with a Negative Tongue has a Fearful Heart A person with an Overactive Tongue has an Unsettled Heart A Person with a Boasting Tongue has a Prideful Heart A Person with a Filthy Tongue has an Impure Heart A Person with a Critical Tongue has a Bitter Heart A Person with a Sharp Tongue has a Hurting Heart A Person with a Judgmental Tongue has an insecure Heart A Person with an Encouraging Tongue has a Loving Heart A Person with a Gentle Tongue has a Happy Heart A Person with a Praising Tongue has a Loving Heart A Person who Speaks with a Truthful Tongue has an honest Heart

As Sunday night’s storms quietened, R&C members were already looking for ways to help with relief efforts. Late Sunday and early Monday morning found many of you out checking on other members to make sure everyone was okay. We all breathed a sigh of relief when it was certain that our own were all safe and sound. Dozens of you have been out helping those who lost their homes sort through the debris to find a few remaining valuables and taking food and other supplies to those frantic to salvage what could be found. You’ve run errands and chainsaws. You’ve comforted those who mourn. As of Wednesday night R&C members have contributed $6,000.00 to fund the relief effort. On Monday alone $3,000 in money and supplies were distributed. Funds from sister congregations will arrive in the coming week. You’ve shown the heart and love of Jesus in your community this week. It’s not heroic--it’s what you’ve been called to do. Thank you for not hesitating. Thank you for putting others ahead of yourself. Thank you for letting the beauty of Jesus be seen in you!
