Our Region 60 VIP’s
Dear Region 60 Families, I’d like to tell you about our Very Important PlayDavid Jones ers, and after I tell you Regional Commissioner about them, I’m going to ask you to tell other people you know about them. AYSO’s Very Important Player (VIP) program is designed to provide a quality soccer experience for individuals with special needs that make it difficult for them to participate on mainstream soccer teams. Players enjoy safe, fun environment with trained coaches and volunteers who facilitate an enriching experience that the players and their families will cherish forever. It’s the complete AYSO experience – team uniforms, scoring goals, cheering from the sidelines,

and the list goes on! John and James are twin brothers that have been playing in the VIP program since the very beginning. They remember 10 years ago when there were only 5 players in the program. This year, there are 22 players in the VIP program. Another feature of the VIP program is the VIP Buddy. VIP players are guided by a Buddy on the field of play. When the Buddy is no longer needed to assist the player physically, they continue to be part of the player support system off the field. Region 60 has 18 registered Buddies. Most of them are AYSO players ranging from 14U to 19U and a few are adults that grew up playing in AYSO and now volunteer to give back to the program. Last Saturday, some of the girls from the 14U Elite Vipers team played a game against the players from the VIP program. It’s really fantastic to see how much fun all the players on both teams have in these games. It really is what AYSO soccer is all about.
10U Russian Interference Referee Assignments in Team Standings In the 10U divisions, the Region assigns refDenied erees and assistant referees for the last game. For all other games, the home team must furnish two team referees and the away team must furnish one team referee for the game preceding their team’s scheduled game. Those individuals decide who will act as referee and who will act as assistant referee. The referee scheduler, Sergio Gastelum, will assign a referee to cover a team's assignment if the referee scheduler is notified no later than the preceding Wednesday that the team will not be able to cover all or part of its assignment. Also, the referee scheduler may waive or change a team's assignment in order to accommodate a request from a PRO referee or a referee looking to gain experience, or to accommodate some other arrangement. A team may switch or cover another time slot (for example, the team's referee can't cover a 9 AM game but is able to do a 12 PM game) if that is arranged with the referee scheduler before Friday. All this needs to be done prior to Friday morning, that's when Sergio sends out the final assignments and prints the sign-in sheets for the fields. Sergio can not make or accept changes Friday evening or Saturday morning.
Region 60 scorekeeper Jim Doty denied allegations that Russian hackers were responsible for several errors in the 10U-14U team standings posted on October Jim Doty, Scorekeeper 21. Mr. Doty, in inpromptu remarks before a small but hostile crowd at the 12U-14U referee tent, suggested that the fault lay in the rush to repurpose last year's excel-based team standings spreadsheets when problems in our website's team standings posting were discovered. Starting this year, Blue Sombrero, commonly known as "BS", replaced the website, registration and program management tools AYSO had been using for several years. The changeover has been difficult. Mr. Doty expressed regret for the embarrassment and inconvenience the erroneous posting may have caused.
Team Snack Bags
• The team makes a late requests for help (Thursday or Friday) and the scheduler is unable to fulfill slot.
Region 60’s snack stand makes your snack day easy. If you forgot it’s your turn to bring snacks, no worries! Let us do the work for you for just $4.00 each. You can TEXT your order to 626288-8882. Please give us 2 hours before you need them, and let us know if you will be picking up your snack bags before your game, during half time or near the end of your game.
• The assigned referee does not fulfill the assignment. All referees must sign in at the tent.
The snack stand also provides oranges, sliced and ready for half time. Oranges can be purchased for $0.50 a bag (4 slices per bag).
When a team misses its referee assignment, a point is deducted from that team's total game points. A team is deemed to have missed its assignment if: • The team does not tell the scheduler the names of their referees by Friday morning.
