TOWN OF LANTANA POSITION DESCRIPTION PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT- GENERAL MAINTENANCE WORKER II Full Time Position Reports to Public Works Supervisor
FLSA Non-Exempt Position
JOB SUMMARY Under the close supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, this is skilled work involving repair, maintenance, and improvement of Town parks, grounds, buildings, facilities, sidewalks, and roadways. Work involves all aspects of preventative and ongoing maintenance and also includes operating/maintaining light power tools, hand tools, and light to heavy equipment (backhoe/loader, bobcat, etc.). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Note: These examples are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed in this classification. Performs necessary preventative and ongoing maintenance and inspections to all Town structures including; checking light fixtures, A/C filters, and playground equipment. Renovates, improves and performs limited construction, carpentry, plumbing, and light electrical duties. Performs preventive maintenance on parking meters, kiosks and coin collection. Creates and replaces street signs and operates flashing signs. Programs valves and clocks for irrigation systems. Grades shell rock roads using loader or tractor. Performs minor maintenance of equipment. Follows safety rules and regulations of the Town including utilizing personal protection equipment. Completes work orders as assigned. Operates and maintains specialized equipment used specifically in the care and maintenance of all Town turf and clay athletic playing surfaces.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the safe use and care of power tools, hand tools, and light to heavy equipment. Knowledge of buildings, roads, and grounds maintenance. Knowledge of irrigation systems Knowledge of sign creation. Ability to complete tasks on schedule with a minimum amount of supervision. Ability to lift and/or move 50 lbs. frequently, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Town officials and the general public.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Candidate must possess a High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in building, roads, and/or grounds maintenance supplemented by technical school training or an equivalent combination of experience or training. Possession of one or more of the following certifications: Public Applicator License-Right-ofways and Ornamental Turf; Registered Flagger (American Traffic Safety Services Association); or Work Zone Traffic Control. Candidate must possess a Florida Class “B” CDL (air brake endorsement). SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS A condition of employment is that incumbent must have and maintain suitable and dependable means of communications/transportation available whereby contacts can be made by management and staff for response to emergencies requiring expeditious corrective action. Where an emergency impacts the Town of Lantana, all employees are subject to work or return to duty as directed to ensure continuation and restoration of services, maintain safety and fulfill the Town’s responsibility to its citizens. FLSA Non-Exempt Position
JOB SUMMARY Under the close supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, this position is required to perform semi-skilled manual work in caring and maintaining the general upkeep of the streets, sidewalks, Town Right of Ways, Public Grounds, Municipal Beach, Parks and other duties as directed. Work extends to weeding, trimming trees/shrubbery, applying fertilizers and pesticides, planting trees, shrubs and ground cover, removing debris and litter, and trail maintenance. Additional duties include operating/maintaining light power equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Note: These examples are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed in this classification. Plants new trees/foliage, removing dead trees/foliage, mowing, watering and trimming around municipal parks and grounds.
Prepares various athletic fields for safe play through daily maintenance and other related tasks. Maintains medians, parks, easements, grounds and right-of-ways. Cleans in and around public buildings, parks, easements, right-of-ways, and other public facilities. Repairs and cleans walkways, tables, park equipment and playgrounds. Performs sidewalk and road maintenance and repairs including patching potholes and the repair of concrete and minor asphalt overlays. Digs ditches, builds retaining walls, fills and places sandbags, and erects barricades. Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment. Follows safety rules and regulations of the Town including utilizing personal protection equipment. Maintains and repairs damaged or missing street signage. Removes debris, dead animals, and graffiti. Completes work orders as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of methods, materials and safety practices used in street and grounds maintenance. Knowledge of landscaping, application of fertilizers and proper pruning techniques. Must be able to lift 50 lbs in the performance of daily duties, often in hot, humid weather conditions. Must have the ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms. Have the ability to drive vehicles and operate chain saws, weed eaters and blowers and mowing equipment.
