Green Team Report: Building Healthier Communities
The Township of Union is a member of the NJLM Mayors Wellness Campaign and yearly the Mayor's office holds the following annual events:
1. Union Senior's Olympics- (5/10/12)An annual event held at the Township of Union Senior Center where senior compete in events designed by our health department nurses for Gold, Silver and Bronze metals. CONTACT THE SENIOR CENTER TO SIGNUP AT 908-851-5290 2. The Township of Union Soap Box Derby- (7/4/12)An annual event held each year on July 4th on Stuyvesant Avenue between Lentz and Long Terrace -Certified course By the Soap Box Derby Club of New Jersey where young adults from ages 5-11 compete in a soap box derby competition. CONTACT THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT TO SIGNUP AT 908-868-4200
**Past participants are not automatically included- you must be weighted prior to the event!
3. Mayor's 5 K Run- (9/15/12) Annually the township hosts a certified course 5K run/walk for the residents throughout our community . Additionally this year the event was expanded to include a Kiddie Run Challenge for our younger residents K-5 years old. CONTACT THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TO SIGNUP AT 908-688-2777 *Day of event sign-up is also allowed
4. Employee Wellness Coach-( Year long Program)-Employee of the Township of Union have the Wellness Coach program that visits each department on a bi-weekly basis- this program is co-sponsored by our insurance carrier and offers weight loss - smoking cessation - mental health assistance for our employee throughout the year.
The Wellness coach will be at the following department on the below listed days: M- Police T- Fire Dept- W- Boe Th-DPW Fr. T.H. Additional one on one sessions can be scheduled throughout the Human Resources Department
