Troubleshooting: Mail App iPad Veronika Kaufmann © Setting up your various email accounts with the Mail application on your iPad is as easy as with any other Mac products running on OSX Snow Leopard, Mail version 4.3 and higher. To set up your accounts on the iPad: Go to Settings/Mail,Calendar,Contacts. Tap on: Add Account.

Enter your name, email address and password. The account is automatically set up. Emails from Gmail, Yahoo!, Hotmail, AOL, etc will automatically feed into your inbox at the specified intervals you choose from the Fetch New Data option. No more annoying POP, smtp stuff to remember. Entering multiple accounts is, of course, possible. With two email accounts feeding into the Mail app, I have never encountered problems. However, when I added a third and fourth account, the following glitches occurred: !

The amount of adjustments you may have to make to get all running smoothly again, depends largley on the size of emails you receive. You may want to consider re-distributing your mails into the folders provided by the Mail app (Personal, Important, Receipts etc) This frees up memory in the inbox. And do remember to empty Trash at regular intervals. There is a “delete all” button. Easy. Your Email Providers Server(s) All mails that come into your Mail account on your iPad are still all on the main server of your chosen provider(s). However, emails sent directly from the iPad will not be on the main server. If you want to back up sent mails, adjust Settings and use the automatic “bcc” option (nr. 6 on Image 3), thereby sending copies to yourself, which then are on the main server of your email account. Any drafts saved on your device are only on the device. To back up any drafts, you have to forward them to yourself and then re-store as a draft on the device in the respective “drafts” folder. These options avoid the loss of important mails&drafts and simultaneously allow you to get rid of less important mail clogging up your inbox on the iPad. Last But Not Least If you continue to encounter problems with multiple accounts on the iPad, import mails from other accounts into your preferred account. Example: you have a hotmail account, a gmail account, a Yahoo! account, an AOL account. Or you have multiple gmail accounts, etc. You can import any accounts into one account, then set up that single account to feed onto your iPad. This is all dependent on your preferences and how you like to have your inbox organized. With the implementation of the 6 variants, I tried up to 6 accounts on my iPad and it worked without a hitch.

These experiments with multiple accounts were carried out on a iPad 64GB 3G.
