Truck Mounted Attenuator Operator (TMA) Certification Class May 3, 2016, 8 AM – Noon CalTrans MTA Facility 4338 Dudley Blvd, McClellan Park CA 95652

National ATSSA and Cal-ATSSA are co-sponsoring an Attenuator Truck Class in conjunction with Chapter meeting and the Work Zone Memorial. The Operation and Application of TMAs course is an introductory course on the operation and application of TMAs in work zones. It is a 4-hour course that applies workable concepts, applications, and recommended practices in the deployment, operation, and removal of TMAs. Previous experience in TMA driving is not required for this course. Course materials include ATSSA's Field Guide for the Use and Placement of Shadow Vehicles in Work Zones. The course is open to all persons involved in the design, installation, maintenance, monitoring and removal of traffic control systems for all temporary activities on streets and highways. COURSE OUTLINE - Introduction - Definitions - Requirements Application of TMAs Personal Safety Considerations - Federal temporary traffic control standards and guidelines. - Apparel, equipment storage, etc. - Types of highways and lane closures. - Entering/exiting TMA - Typical uses, positioning, etc. - Entering/exiting traffic. - Arrow boards - Mobile and stationary operations. Operation of TMAs - Different types of TMAs - Crash-testing requirements - Properties/component parts - Conspicuity tape, ballast, lights, mounted signs, etc.
