Truth B-P Church Report of Missions Trip to Cambodia (17 to 21 Dec 2010) by John Loo “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4) The team of five from Truth B-P Church in Singapore set off for Cambodia with great expectations to celebrate with our brethren in True Gospel B-P Church (in Kampot) on their 3rd Anniversary. The team comprised Rev Dennis Kwok, Ernest Kwok, Dn Martin Cheong, John and Josephine Loo. We landed at the Phnom Penh International Airport after a two-hour flight, arriving to a cool windy morning. We were warmly received by Pr John Saray and were quickly whisked away in an eleven-seater air-conditioned commuter. Our first stop en-route to Kampot was Lively Hope B-P Church, our new work at Sihanoukville which Pr Saray had begun recently at the beginning of November 2010. After travelling for about four hours, we arrived at Sihanoukville and checked into a guesthouse. We had a short rest before going to the new church. The neighbourhood children started to arrive in small groups. Two Gospel meetings had been arranged for them. There were twenty-three young children in the first group, aged between three to twelve years old. They sat attentively throughout the meeting led by Mrs Josephine Loo. She shared the gospel message entitled “The Gift of God” from Matthew 1:18-25, with Pr Saray as the interpreter.
Then Rev Kwok shared a gospel message from Romans 6:23 to the second group, comprising of a few teens. Pr Saray interpreted the message into the Khmer language. Together with Pr Saray, his wife Lydia, and their children Jonathan and Melissa, we made our way to Kampot the next morning. Upon arrival, we were received warmly by Prs Sopheak, Rotha, Thaven and several youths at True Gospel B-P Church. We were brought to a new outreach, Andong Khmer Village Commune, which is about ten minutes away from the church. The work there included daily English lessons on weekdays and Sunday School classes on the Lord’s Day for the neighbourhood children. These are held in a rented, stand-alone tworoom building. Plans are underway to hold Sunday worship services here commencing 2011. A Christmas special was planned for the same evening. People staying in the neighbourhood started to arrive and very soon the number swelled to about sixty children and a couple of adults. Dn Martin shared a Gospel message from Luke 2:11, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord”, with Pr Thaven as the interpreter. After that a nativity story was acted out by the youths from True Gospel B-P Church. There was also a song item and a fan dance. As the evening drew to a close, it was a muchawaited time of gift exchange with excited participation from the village children.
About 25 youths and adults attended the Lord’s Day morning worship service at True Gospel B-P Church. Pr Thaven was the chairman. Rev Kwok preached from Hebrews 4:1-11 a message entitled “Entering into His Rest,” with Pr Sopheak as the interpreter.
Rev Kwok also conducted the baptismal service and the Lord’s Supper. Sisters Lai Somanet and Meas Channavy, and brother Sany Pisey publicly acknowledged Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour and Lord. We also witnessed the transfer of membership of Pr Thaven to True Gospel B-P Church. Preachers Sopheak, Rotha and Thaven are ministering in True Gospel B-P Church. They take turns to preach the Word, to write the weekly and to ferry the people to and from the church with the tutu. The Lord’s Day was packed with activities in the church. At 3 pm, about forty came for a children’s meeting. Mrs Loo spoke to them about God’s Gift, with Pr Sopheak as the interpreter. She ended the message with a gift for each child. They joyfully received
their presents and many also eagerly answered the call to receive Jesus as their personal Saviour. Many neighbours and friends, young and old, came to the church for a big Christmas celebration that evening. Rev Kwok preached a Christmas gospel message with Pr Rotha as the interpreter. This was followed by a dinner of curry chicken and bread. The youths in the church once again acted out the nativity story. The finale of the evening was another exciting gift exchange for the young ones among the audience.
We praise God for the many blessings He has poured upon True Gospel B-P Church at Kampot.
We rejoice with the brethren at Sihanoukville and Kampot. Let us continue to uphold them in prayer and support them as they labour faithfully in God’s vineyard in that part of the world.
