Truth B-P Church Report of missions trip to Kenya (27 Nov to 14 Dec 2010) by Carol Lee It is with much joy and thanksgiving to our gracious Lord that I return from Kenya, having seen the Lord’s blessings on the labours of our Kenyan brethren. Our brethren there send their greetings to us all here in Singapore. The building project (a 3-storey acco mmo d atio n block) of the Bomet Bible Institute (BBI) is making progress, although slowly. The first level is almost completed

and work continues on the second level. More funds are still needed for the work to continue to completion.

As for the Bomet van, sufficient funds have been raised and a second-hand van will be purchased next year. This will greatly ease the Bomet brethren’s transport difficulty. The BBI library continues to be built up. The children’s books contributed by our Singapore brethren are being housed in the Bomet primary school library for easy access to the children. In Eldoret, the Faith College of the Bible (FCB) has started an in-service programme early this year to train lay leaders of the local churches.

As invited by Rev Michael Koech (Principal of BBI), and by God’s grace, I was able to conduct a Vacation Bible Course on “Biblical Missions” at the BBI. The course was repeated the following week in Eldoret (in the campus of the FCB) for the benefit of members of local churches in the Eldoret region. 31 BBI students, pastors and church leaders from the Africa Gospel Unity Church (AGUC) attended the course at Bomet while at Eldoret there were 6 representatives from two groups of churches: the AGUC and the Holy Trinity Church (HTC). For both weeks, classes were held from Monday to Thursday and the students sat for a written examination after that.

Do pray for the training ministry in Bomet and Eldoret that labourers may be better equipped to serve our Lord in the local churches. Our Bomet brethren are also mindful of foreign missions. Do pray for them as they look into church-planting in Tanzania. Pray also for sister Lorna Were as she explores the possibility of starting a children’s ministry in Tanzania. In Eldoret on 11 Dec (Saturday), thank God for Rev Philip Lagat’s arrangement, I was able to speak to almost 300 children at the Vacation Bible School of the Good News Church. Rev Lagat has a radio broadcast ministry where, for 11,500 KES (about S$25) a month, he is able to preach in Kalenjin for 15 minutes a week.

The worship service was followed by Bible Study where Pstr Nelson gave me the opportunity to share with the group. Though a small congregation, worshipping in a rented classroom of a school, the members are very warm and friendly. We had lunch at a member’s home and then visited the homes of two other members, before making our way back to FCB (a journey of another two hours!). Thank God for opening this door of ministry into Kenya to co-labour with our Kenyan brethren in the training of church leaders and in their church ministry; and for keeping me in good health and granting me journey mercies. The Lord willing I shall return to minister to them again in 2011. Would you pray about going too? All glory be unto God!

On 12 Dec (Lord’s Day), I worshipped at one of the two HTCs pastored by Pstr Nelson Were. From the FCB campus, we trekked two kilometres out to the main road to take a matatu, walked another kilometre to board another matatu before arriving at the church, after a total travelling time of about two hours!
